Mary l Hall Mary Kring Givens Hall was built by Adam Hendrix, father of Bishop Eugene Hendrix, about l.840. After Adam Hendrix's death, it was rented by Central College for a dormitory until it was bought by Howard-Payne College in 1907. It was then used as a home for the .president of Howard-Payne College until 1922-'23, when Howard-Payne College merged With Central College. In 1928 , it underwent a remodeling with the funds provided by Mrs. Iohn W. Fristoe, daughter of Mary King Givens . Mary King Givens Hall was then used for living quarters for the single female faculty members until the outbreak of World War II. During.World War II, it was used for a clinic and a hospital for the navy men attending Central 'College under the V-12 program. At the end of the war it was changed into living quarters and an office for the Dean of Women, and a domitory for selected young Women students. It continued as a dormitory for young Women students until 1-955-'56, In 1955-'56, it was a dormitory for young men students. In 1957-'58 it is again dormitory for young Women students Kring Givens

, DEAN OF WOME N Holt Hall C Holt Hall, the spanking new Sl ,OO0,000 Women's dormitory, had long been a wispy dream of Methodists, Central College staff, and 20th-century women residing in 19th-century Howard-Payne. When Bishop Ivan Lee Holt signaled the bulldozer to scoop the first bite of dirt late in the afternoon of April ll , 1956, no one could quite believe that the dream would be 6 reality by September, 1957. However, September's arrival was accompanied by the opening of the largest resident hall on Central's campus--Ivan Lee Holt Hall.
