Thogmorton DEAN OF MEN AND DIRECTOR OF MCMURRY HALL McMurry Hall McMurry Hall, a dormitory for men, was built by the Iohn Epple Construction Company, the architects being Trueblood and Graf of St. Louis , Missouri. The ground was broken on April 28, 1927, and the cornerstone ceremony was held Iune 23rd. On Tuesday, November 15 , 1927 , the dormitory was dedicated by Bishop W. F. MCMurry, and Frank C. Rand of St. Louis delivered the dedicatory address. T The dormitory is named in honor of Bishop W. F. McMurry, president of Central College , 1924-'30. It is a four-and-a-half story brick building in the simple architecturalstyle of the English country house . --- --1' Howard Payne Hall The first part of what is now Howard Payne Hall was erected in 1851 and opened in October, 1853. lt was then a part of Howard High School. When the main building of Howard High School, which stood where Brannock Hall stands now, burned in 1854, this boarding house was used for classes. In 1854 the north wing was completed. In 1889 the third unit was built. In 1910 the first section of the porch was erected. During the summer of 1920 the older part of the building was modernized and in 1921 a new section was added. The addition doubled the capacity of the dormitory. It provided a Well-furnished home for 200 young women .1- Then in 1957 it again underwent extensive re- modeling.
