I d d g A 3 I if 1 an Brannock Hall D As soon as the charter for Central College was signed in 1854, work was started on construction of the building now known as Brannock Hall. The building was completed in 1856 and at that time composed the entire College. It was called The Academy and housed both the classrooms and living quarters . , During the Civil War, normal procedures were interrupted when the Union Soldiers took pos- session of The Academy. Horses were quartered on . MW the first floor while soldiers occupied the second and , third floors. The name 'of the building was changed to Library Hall when Science Hall was constructed in 1895 . The building was further changed in 1911 when it was trans- formed into a dormitory' for men at a cost of Sl5,000. This modernization included steam heat, electric lights , and lavatories on each floor. It now -contains 15 - single rooms and 27 doublerooms. Mr, T. Y. Brannock contributed S10 ,O0O, in memory of his brother Iohn P. Brannock who was one of the first students. ln 1914 the building was formally named Brannock Hall. Once more, in 1928 Brannock was changed, this time into an administration and class building The first floor was devoted to the administrative offices the second to classrooms and the third floor to an Art Department and literary society halls During the remodeling process the old bell tower on the left end of the building cracked, making it necessary to lower this tower to the level of the other one Brannock assumed a new dignity during the summer of 1954 that can not be surpassed by the newer buildings on the campus This building which was the original building of Central College now proceeds into its second centui y in a stately white f y -fs 11 111.1 If 1 44.4 M A-xr .14 Ribs, I .
