F53 LAWRENCE HEWITT, Student President The Student Council Student Council activities have gone forward during the year under the capable, diligent leadership of Lawrence Hewitt, the student president. He replaced Milton Finney who was forced to relinquish the student presidency and his Council membership on account of ill-health. The Cats' Clan, which was organized by last year's Student Council, began to function in the Fall. With -the aid of the Cats' Clan the Council conducted the best home-coming parade ever seen at Central. The management of the Vodevil was efficiently carried on. A spirited contest was held between the boys and the girls for the sale of tickets. The boys, who lost, gave a dancing party for the girls, the winners. The proceeds of the Vodevil constitute the Students' Activity Fund. A joint meeting with the Centennial A. C. O. was held, and resolutions for better spirit between the two schools were drawn up and read in the assemblies of each. Assembly speakers were also exchanged with Centennial and Colorado Springs to promote good will. The Student Council brought several students whose actions endangered the reputation of the school before the Student Court for trial. The annual Clean-Up Campaign was conducted, opening with an assembly put on by the Council. Posters were placed throughout the school, and prizes were given for the best posters submitted illustrating the Campaign. During' this campaign the slogan used was: Make Central the Cleanest School in the State. Charters were granted to the Agora Debating Society, the Commercial Club, and Stylus Club. The Council members sold Handbooks. The plan now is to publish the Handbook only once every two years, adding a supplement the year the book is not issued. Howard Woodrum and his committee have planned an unusually complete and attractive Handbook for 1931-32. The Council decorated the school at Christmas. This was an innovation, and the idea will probably be continued in years to come. Seventy meetings were held this year. The year ended with the election of new Council mem- bers who were installed at the formal installation service on May 18. That same evening the annual banquet of the Council was held in the school cafeteria. sLv u 1 , L181
