Keating John Francis Keating was born on a farm on the banks of the Still- water River in Miami County, Ohio. In 1893 he became superintendent of schools in Aspen, Colorado, and in 1895 he filled the same position in Central City, coming the next year to District Twenty. Of his Work during the thirty-three years spent in Pueblo and in District Twenty, it is not necessary to speakg it speaks for itself. H-e is of those of whom it was said, By their fruits shall ye know them. The educational history of Colorado has been enriched and enlarged by the influence of Mr. Keating's indomitable pioneer spirit. He has served as president of the Colorado Teachers' As-sociation, as a member of its board of directors, as president of the superintendents' and prin- cipals' section, as a charter member of the .School Masters' Club, and as president of the Western State Boosters' Club. In recognition of the ex- cellence of his service Denver University, in 1906, conferred upon him the degree of Master of Arts, and in 1914 made him Doctor of Letters. In 1927 he received the degree of Doctor of Education from the University of Colorado. Recognition of Mr. Keating's ability has not been limited to the state. He has been secretary of the National Educational Association, and is now a member of its legislative board. He i-s a member of the Archaeological Association of America, and of the Economic League Association. During the World War, as a member of the National Council of Defense, and as an active promoter of every loyal movement, he demonstrated that his was not the kind of patriotism that could be hidden under a bushel. He was grad- uated from Quincy High School, and in December of the year 1904 he came to Colorado. Mr. Pitts has received the degrees of A. B. from Denver University, of A. M. from Colorado University, and the Certificate of Eminent Service from the State Superintendent of Colorado. On January 1, 1907, Mr. Pitts started teaching in Central High School. During the twenty-two years he has been here he has taught History, English, Businss Law, Business Arithmetic, General Science, Algebra, and Geometry. He organized 'the Olympic Debating Society and was critic of that society from 1911 until 1923. Mr. Pitts was football coach in 1907 and 1909 and from 1919 until 1925, and track coach from 1907 until 1923. He was faculty business manager of the first Annual ever published in Central High School, and has been very much interested in the work of putting out the Annual ever since. Mr. Pitts has been prominent in educational work in the state, having been secretary of the Southern District of 'the Colorado Educational Asso- ciation for four years, and also vice president and president of that body, He is a member of the executive council of the State Athletic Board, and secretary of the South Central Athletic League.
