, Centralites are privileged to have a wide variety from which to choose in the field of language arts. What are the language arts? The term applies to those subjects which aid a student in expressing himself more clearly. Among these subjects are the required English courses all students take during freshman, sophomore, and junior years. Elective courses in the language arts include speech, drama, journalism, English literature, and foreign lan- guages. Speech is a course which develops a student's ability in public speaking. Drama is a course which assists a student in developing his personality through the dra- matic arts. journalism is a captivating language art in which the student spends one semester learning how to publish a newspaper and another semester in the actual A panel discussion provides interest for an enthusiastic freshman English class. 6 publication of the school paper, The Oulloak. Included in the foreign languages are Spanish, French, and Latin. A student may take two years in any of these languages. English literature, a course which is extremely helpful to students who plan to attend college, has long been offered at Central. Experience in doing research, in critical reading, and in writing, is attained in this course. The many subjects included in language arts are not easy, but any student who seriously applies himself in any of these courses will Hnd the experience both pleasur- able and profitable. Indians Learn Gary Gilkerson gives a book report, a vital part ibf the English curriculum, for his classmates in sophomore English.
