Qrchestra ACH MEMBER of the advanced orchestra, which is a complete symphonic group in instrumen- tation and in caliber of performance, must be proficient in his line, since only music of the highest Value is studied. The creation of deep and intelligent appreciation of good music is one of the greatest aims of the orchestra. It provides, therefore, excellent training for the mu- sical students. The orchestra, under , the direction of Albert Weatherly, ,7 plays for assemblies, dramatic produc- 1 tions, and radio audiences. It also lends excellent support to the choral groups in the presentation of The Messiah, the minstrel, and the opera. Band ENTRAL High School's band is composed of approximately ninety-seven members this year, each a master of his instrument. The repertoire of the band includes most of the standard and classical compositions that have been arranged for concert and band use. The classes of 1936, 1937, and 1938 presented the band with new uniforms, valued at four thousand dollars. , The band has appeared more than one hundred times this year on not only school programs but also civic and public concerts, parades, and con- ventions. The officers of the band are captain, Ralph Scargallg lieutenant, Floyd Jondahl, top sergeant, Russell McCullough, and other sergeants, Winton Blair, Bob Wfeatherly, Wilson Shoemaker, Rob Hays, and Don Rob- inett. These leaders have willingly de- voted their time to make the Tulsa J Central High School band the success it undoubtedly is. Page 174

Oirl Scouts RECOGNIZED high school organization since 1925, the Girl Scout Club of Tulsa meets every second Week, shortly after the dismissal of school in the afternoon. Various and interesting activities are offered to the members. Many happy hours are spent at their camp near Locust under eighteen years of age and must promise to live up to the Girl Scout laws. The club aims to create, main- tain, and extend high standards of fellowship. The club members give some aid to worthwhile students in defraying their expenses through school. In addition, they provide a graduation outfit each year for one senior girl. At Christmas members of the club spend much time renovating toys for poor children.
