I if NwsYD'f'IQ?:i K I want to congratulate the i965 graduates for completing one part of their educalion. Two of the major objectives of high school education are to improve scholarship and citizenship. There are many experiences atCentral High School designed to improve citizenship. You have been taught proper conduct in the classroom, lunchroom, halls, auditorium and at athletic events. Youhave learned to cooperate with student leadership through the student council. In your advisory groups, you were given many suggestions for proper behavior both in school and elsewhere. In athletic events and in club activities you have learned to respect the rights of others. We believe that the many experiences in living together will serve you well in adult life. ,,V 7,7 ,Y1 .. f-. 1 . . 1 1. ... . . 1 advantages you have had to develop ksuperior scholarship at'CentraIP PP J P 'P PP Remember that the good high school graduate is superior in both citizenship and scholarship, We expect all members of the 1965 Central graduating class to continue to develop in keeping with the high standards of this school. A. C . PHILLIPS, Principal ru A ,.f 'xNxXVi Good citizenship is our American Her- itage , This American Heritage influences the lives of all. lt must be preserved, and it must reach all. The free public schools supply the media by which this training for citizenship is accomplished. Thomas Jefferson said The Public School's reason for being is to teach citizenship . A mere memorization of historical facts is not sufficient to achieve good citizenship. A good citizen must act as well as knowand think. studentsf Training for citizenship cannot be citizen- delegated to a single department. T ship training must be a part of the daily routine in each department and each teacher must have a part in citizenship training. A good citizen- ship program teaches respect for responsibility and the individual's acceptance o such respon- sibility. ! A1HO1d Zo f W To the Graduates You have reached another milestone in your life. Congratulations! The' diploma you receive at graduation indicates that you have done a good job ataschool that has confidence in your ability to lead a happy useful life. May we encourage you to continue your schooling by attending some good University, If you cannot, then we do hope you can find some other means of maintaining desired progress. Possibly at no time in history has there been greater need, or greater opportunity, for the young to do good in the world. Therefore, let your goals always lead you to ghe fullest service of God, your fellovvman, an the maximum development of your ca- pacities, so that you can realize a life full of achievement and happiness, George V. Eyes are cast onto the field, watching, watching! At not time is everyone seen. Always it is the same few. These few--some just sitting, some avidly watching the gameg and some watching me. The few usually cheer good-naturedly, wave shakers, and blow charge on their horns. They look to me for directions. But, when Igive these directions, they watch closely my every move. I must be every conscious of my behavior and attitude towards them. The faces I see are subject to many changes. Sometimes they are happy, more often they express the sadness that suggests failure. I must try to please these faces. It is difficult, for they expect too much. I must try to capture and hold their attention. I must lead them in cheering on the team--a team winning or losing, for always the sea of faces is there, waiting for me to lead it--and watching. Cheryl Johnson JI: MN! Soon Be Om Soon it will be over. Four years ago I thought graduation day would never come. As I leave C.H.S., I remember the joy of going to aud sessions, athletic games, and the school plays. The many disappointments are now forgotten. Only tomorrow has meaning. Am I prepared to face tomorrow? Did four years at C.H,S, bear fruit, or did my academic negligence channel me into a realm of mediocrity? I shall soon know. Oh!! I wish I could relive the past four years! Susan Mayer 100 oglefafy .fd janlaag Is going to high school a challenge for you, or is it just a dream world, a transitional period from those carefree days of youth to those of young adulthood? Are we innocent lambs traveling through blind alleys, thinking it is the world outside? Our teachers identify us with such lovable names? They say, Hey, you Cretin, or You're just a stoneheadf' As a result, we simply react by not doing our homework. Perhaps, this is because we don't have a sense of securit . However lease understand that we are searchin . Y ' . . . for our own meamngs and sense of values. We have to find out for ourselves, even if it misleads us. Our fantasy continues, as we wander through four years of high school. We say to ourselves, Have we missed anything? The answer comes echoing back--we hope not! But are we sure? cheryl Pettitt jo we gI'tl6Jllate5 Your four years of secondary education are now coming to a close, so take a few minutes to relax and evaluate those years. Can you honestly say that you have received a liberal education, or have you cheated yourself and faked your way through Central High School? After graduation, you will be stepping into the adult world, either into the working world, or the world of further education. Will you be ready for either? For many of you the answer will be aResounding NO, and thatis because you failed to realize the extreme importance of receiving an education, not 'ust a diploma. Will you accept the blame for your shortcomings, or was it the teachers' fault? Be a man--admit the truth! Your teachers tried, did you?
