Baseball got into full swing. The team tied McBride, and won from Roosevelt. Sumner, and Laboure ltwicel, but lost to Vashon and Cleveland. The track team also started a full schedule beginning with the State Indoor Meet on April They had dual meets with Beaumont Had ley McKinley Washington Soldan Blewett 'l hey also took part in the Maplewood Relays which were held on April 23 The big day for the seniors of course was April Z2 when they held their Color Day Ex erci es The day started with rain but the sun came out by noon so we got to make the usual snap hots Mrs Finley and Mr Carlisle the class sponsors are to be congratulated on the handsome appearance and exemplary decorum of their class in 4 ff' 1 K J!

XVe must give honorable mention to Richard Smith, since it was Rich who has brought at- tenticn to Central with his championship speeches. Rich has just won three American Legion Oratorical contests. They are the North Side Championship, City Championship, and the Zone Championship. From here he went to Jefferson City to compete for the State Championship, He placed third in the contest. 77Zile4Zane4 By Arlene Yeager Many marvelous activities took place in the month of May. To begin with, on May 6 the Central High Choir and Band held their annual spring con- cert in the auditorium. Everyone enjoyed it very much. Mr. Bierdeman directed the vocal numbers, and Mr. Sinnett conducted the band. Three members of the track team, Choate, Davidson, and Ferrell, went to Columbia for the State Track Meet The Lettermen held their Spring Dance on May 20 Marlene Unnerstall was chosen Spring ueen The other ueen Candidates were Louise Kelley Joveina Lopiparo Carol Wm stead Virginia Sampson Camilla Bono Judy Yiemann Marilyn Fleschute Dorothy Hersch bach and Peggy Steward They are pictured on the panel on the next page At the dance they all wore their formals and looked very lovely indeed Many Central students marched in the Bond Issue Parade on May 23 Many Central students also assisted in the Bond Election which was held on May 26 The baseball team won its first four games in the State Tournament defeating Laboure Normandy Roosevelt and Perryville They lost the regional title to Mercy During the last six years Central has won twenty seven state games out of the thirty played In the Interscholastic Track and Field Meet on May 27 points were scored by Ferrell Choate Tate and our senior mile relay team T ie XX.
