Barr returned as Principal. after being Principal of Soldan-Blewett for eight years. Having already been Principal of Central from 1944 to I9-16, Mr. Barr is the only person to hold tlae position for two separ- ate terms of office. XVe also had a new Assistant Principal, Mr. A. B. Jordan. who came to us after filling a similar position at Hadley' Technical High School. XVe missed Miss Lowry' and 'Vliss Miller. who te ok leaves of absence because of illness. z Wake By Hilda James November was noteworthy for both nor- malcies and novelties. In observance of American Education Week the school held Open House on the evening of November 9. Mrs. Steinkamp, President of the Mother's Club and Mr. Newman, President of the new Dads' Club, were guest speakers. The Central-Cleveland football game ended in a tie, 13 to 13. Under the sponsorship of Miss Stanton a new Pep Club was organized on November 3rd. Virginia Sampson was elected President. Bob Diehl was chosen Vice-President, Hilda James was named Secretary and Wilma Hen thcrne was picked for Treasurer The club has already helped liven up our cheering sec tion at the football games The Redwmgs won from Soldan Blewett I4 to I3 but lost to Beaumont 47 to 0 Ouch This really was our most successful football season in many years since we lost only two league games Bill Root who was Co Captain along with Les Bu hmann and Ed Gambill was chosen as a guard on the All District Team The B Football Team under the coaching of Mr Thuet evened up things a little by beat ing the Beaumont B Team I9 to 7 'Ihe basketball and swimming teams began practising under coaches Carlisle and Cliffe Mr Harold Anderson will coach the B Basketball Team Richard F Smith who represented Central for three straight years in the Voice of Democ racy Conte t of the Junior Chamber of Com mercc was chosen city champion this year Last year he finished second A new Public Speaking Club has been organ ized with about thirty members to take the place of the Toastmasters and Toastmistresses whcse meetings during class hours had to be dis continued Pichard F Smith is President Pa tricia Howard is Vice President Virginia Samp son is Secretary and Sid McCauley is Treasur er Mr Davis is sponsor During the Thanksgiving holiday Al Holt mann won the National Junior Tennis Champ ion hip at the Armory where the meet was held this year His chief victim was David Harum a sophomore at the University K third nationally while Al We fl lm sri xlil Q01 is had been ranked sixth Lx X 4.4.4 - V V A , ,ggzg .
