Administration MR. OTTO P. ROST Asszistanl Prirzcipul l MISS MARY BIRTLEY The year l954 has become a very important year in the history of education because of the recent decision of the United States Supreme Court concerning segregation in the schools. This action will change the practice of lip service democracy in our schools to a real live democracy in the very near future. I personally believe that our Central High School student body is ready and most willing to adjust to an integrated school. The responsibility for making a smooth transition from a segregated school to a non- segregated school lies with the parents as well as the pupils now enrolled in school. Central High School can, in this endeavor, become a model for other schools. Otto P. Rosz

Administration With your permission, kind reader, may l quote from James J. Metcalfe: Another year of school is gone . . . Com- mencement Day is here . . . And all the boys and girls are set . . . To give their loudest cheer . . . It may be just from grade to grade . . . Or into high school ranks . . Or qualined for col- lege and A . . Their parents' happy thanks . . . Or maybe they have reached at last . . , The height of some degree . . . As they are graduated from . . . A university . . . ln any case it is the day . , . To smile and celebrate . . . Because they need not watch the clock . , . For fear of being late , . . And whether they had eyes and ears . . . Or dazed throughout the year . . . The books and doors are closed once more . . . And it is time to cheer. E. XV. Alexander MR. E. W. ALEXANDER PFI-ITCIUIDKII i H MISS MAETA VJENTZ
