Events of Central s By KATHRYN KoEN1ci From the ringing of the Hrst 9 o'clo:k bell in September until the dying reverberations of the last 3 o'clock bell in June, Central's ninety lifth year has been crammed full of outstand- ing occasions and unforgettable events. The students of Central have many reasons to be proud of their school and Central has many reasons to be proud of them. Because these reasons are innumerable, it will be possible to record only the most outstanding events in which Central High School takes pride. All the students were eager to return to school in September, but only the seniors Walked through the halls with their heads in the clouds. They soon came down to earth and elected their class oflicers, who were Ray Mr Walter Pollard presenting the Clifford Marik Trophyi Mobley, Ida Poli, Lorraine Weipert, and Martin McClurkin. Out football team got off to a promising start by defeating St. Charles in a pre-season game. Central's tennis team ended the season in fifth place in October. On October llth, the class of January '48 received the Red and Black colors of Central High School. The New Senior Class elected Miss Friedman as their sponsor, and Fred Chapman, Marie Kogut, Patricia Herndon, and Alfred Mirth as their officers. On November 10th, Larry Adler ad- dressed the student body on racial tolerance. He completed his visit with a few harmonica solos. The swimming team began practice on November 24th. Four Centralites discussed the question, Should St. Louis Have a World's Fair in l953? over station KXOK on December 4th. On December 18th and 19th the stu- dents of Central High School presented the Christmas play written by Miss Eimer. It consisted of four scenes: the first, Fruits and Vegetablesug the second, The Elves and the Christmas Mail : the third, Trial of Na- tions : and the fourth, Miracle of Christ- mas . All the costumes were designed and made by the students.
