THE AUTHOR OF THE SCHOOL SONG CLARENCE STRATTON The school loyalty song, Hail to Central High, was written by a former teacher, Dr. Clarence Stratton, who is now Director of English in the city schools of Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Stratton was born in Philadelphia, September I 7, ISSU. I-le graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with the degree of B. S. in 1901 and received the degree of Ph. D. in l904. l-le taught Eng- lish at Central from l903 to I92I when he went to Cleveland. From l9l8 to l92l he taught public speaking in the extension division of Washington University. He has also taught summer courses in several universities. During the summer of I923 he lectured at Stratford-on-Avon and Bingley Training College, England. ' Besides being the author of several text books on English and public speaking, Dr. Stratton also has written considerable poetry and fiction. His latest published book is an adventure story of the Crusades, entitled Paul of Francef ' ' Fourleen
