THE SIGNAL A Hearty Welcome EMBERS of the Board of Education teachers friends and class mates I wonder lf it is really necessary for me to try to tell you in words how truly glad we are to have you with us today We have already learned how useless words really are when they try to ex press the deepest feelings of the heart It is said that there is truly no sweeter word in the English language than the word Welcome We really do want to say it to you and to say it in the right way Perhaps it will not be amiss to say a word in explanation of our having invited you to our school today We my classmates and I have completed the course of study prescribed for graduation from Central High We have laid the greater part of our youthful years upon the altar of learning a great deal of thought a great deal of enthusiasm a great deal of application somethmg of sacrifice something of Joy Gaming an education has been the most important factor ot our lives thus far our absorbing interest It seems meet to us then that the successful con clusion of somethmg that so long has engaged our closest attention that so long has been kmt into the very fabric of our lives should be flttmgly celebrated How can we better celebrate this event than by gathering our friends together to listen to the recital of our achievements in school ness would not be complete without your being happy with us for it IS true that no man lives unto himself alone The threads of our lives have been interwoven with the threads of yours and so you are nothing if not welcome Peggy Goad Salutatorian Class Colors, Flower and Motto T THE beginning of this our Senior year we met for the purpose of selectmg three things-colors flower and motto-which wel to be our symbols throughout the year For our colors we chose marlne blue and gold for our ilower the yellow rose and for our motto ON TO THF TOP We did not choose an Alice blue or CGFIQQ or manue or any of the up to date but certainlv transient hues of the modern maids vocabulary These will all be but tomorrows as utterly forgotten in the dust heap of the past as they were known yesterday We selected only those enduring shades that haxe gleamed through the ages ln the rainbow of promise since God set his bow in the clouds For we wanted our colors to endure in Just such glorious promise through the ages of success that are to be ours F1rst then we chose the blue ot truth for our foundation the blue 4Page Twenty five v . 1 v . 1 ' v ek a . v gg YY . , ' s 9 l 7 7 . 9 7 7 ' ' F 7 ' 7 9 - ' ! and our aspirations in the life that is to follow graduation?
