El 6 OUR ALMA MATER The Central Hlgh School of Columbla Tennessee was organlzed ln Octobe 1909 At that time lt was a county school wlth three teachers and 31 pupxls At the close of the flrst year It had grown to four teachers and eighty one puplls The old Athenaeum bulldlng was used until 1n 1915 the present bulldlng was erected The enrollment has grown from 175 puplls 1n 1915 to a llttle more than 400 1n the high school department whxch has slxteen teachers The only courses offered at flrst were Engllsh Latln and SCIENCE Home Economlcs C0mm6IClal work and Manual Arts have smce been added Any of these courses IS now planned to glve slxteen credits The school IS afflllated wltn all the olleges of the South and any graduate w1l1 be accepted without nt ance oxammatlons There are approxlmately twelve hundred graduates of the school ome Jf whom are actlve m the Alumm Assoclatlon The muslc and expresslon departments are mamtamed on a hlgh plane A orchestra adds enthuslasm and athletxcs are not neglected for there are also football basketball and baseball teams From an embryomc stage to 1tS present pos1t1on as a potent factor of the communlty Mr R L Harrls Superlntendent of the Clty Schools and Mr Duke Plmclpal have wltnessed the growth of the school as a reward of their efforts lPage Thlrteenj -529' 4612+ --i-.ni--nl . .
