THE PNALKA I7 similar Qblass Zbtstnrp HEN that honored and respected class, '03, had graduated, it became necessary to call for new recruits to fill the depleted ranks of S. H. S. The result was that such a large number of splendid youths in short trousers and maidens with braids appeared that it seemed wise to the authorities to break us into two distinct sections, so that we might not dominate the school at too earlya stagein our career. The question was how the division should be made. Alphabetically? By age? Or by zeal in study? Finally the last method was decided upon. So Nellie Richards, Glynn, Bug Howe, Frank Bishop, and the other congenial souls were assigned to the morning division. The intellectual division, where Yerrall stood pre-eminent, came in the afternoon. Zeke Williams qualified in the latter section by reason of his glasses, but after a single Week's trial was transferred to the morning section. Thus we existed in disunion until the Sophomore year. ' We would be glad indeed to leave this year from our chronicle for it was a year of disaster. Kingsbury made second substitute on the second basketball team, and ad'uertz'red as a great athlete. This has since become chronic. The advent of the brothers Wilbur gave us another setback. They hailed from Podunk and could beat Kingsbury at his own game. The only ray of light during this year came when Anderson and Bishop began to develop those characteristics which were to make them famous, and bring them honor. The other event of good omen was the coming of Lengthy Giles who was to bring order out of chaos. The Junior year was remarkable, as was natural with such a class. We tried to run the Recorder Cinto the groundj but did not quite succeed. Si Kempton was the first business manager but his duties as bank president forced him to drop it. Then Wilbur took hold of it. We had an exhi- bition of watered stock and then-the bubble broke and John disappeared over Pecowsic hill in an auto. Dick Norton almost got hold of the job but was spirited away just in time. The terrible task fell upon Jack Frost, who finished it. As for the editorial end, the paper had one editor-elect and two editors. Lewis, CO5, '06, '07, ad infinitumj entered our class and tried
