Capable Administration Strengthens School Guiding, counsel'ing, teaching, and lending a helping hand were the administrators and faculty of High Point High School during the year, 1950-1951. They faithfully served the students both in their oflices and classrooms and by their guidance and counsel. They became special friends of their pupils by listen- ing to their ideas, serving their best interests, and giving them a guiding hand. The school board, composed of five promi- nent citizens under the chairmanship of Mr. Williani A. Tomlinson, serves as the connecting link between the school system and the citizens of the community. YVorking closely with the school board is Mr. Charles F. Carroll, superin- tendent of the city schools, whose untiring efforts and farsightedness have developed an educational program which is second to none in the state. The dean of boys, Mr. Nile F. Hunt, has served as an amiable consultant during the year, especially to boys who, confronted with decisions, desired information concerning military en- listments. Miss Anna Mendenhall, who has the responsible position of dean of girls, has done a magnificent job of handling the varied problems with which she is daily confronted. Heading High Point Senior High School is a man whose advice and counsel are held in highest esteem by the students of H.P.H.S., Mr. D. P. Whitley, our principal. His con- stant service, his ability to understand the students, and his competent direction have helped to make our high school one of which we may well be proud. Two of the important people in our school are our deans, who give incessantly of their time to help the students through their advice and friendship. I Our dean of girls is Miss Anna Mendenhall and our dean of boys is Mr. Nile F. Hunt. Good humor is contagious in the general office as Mrs. Johnsie Jackson, our school secretary, flashes a happy smile at all who enter, even though she is always busy answering the phone, issuing books, filing reports, and efficiently managing the office. Helping Johnsie is Mrs. Doris Teague, who ,adds to the pleasant atmosphere, as she supplies information for the students and faculty. She is also well known to the seniors for her help in getting transcripts off to the colleges of their choice.
