Followers of the Keystone and the Flaming Torch Ilfl CHAI- uonon saunv Following a service marked 5 QU with beauty and simplicity, ' N W V 5' W 5 5 L. twelve seniors were inducted into the I95U chapter of the National Honor Society. - Tommie Lentz, president pre- sided over the impressive ceremony. After the traditional tapping, the inductees took their vows and received their pinsfthe keystone, representing the high ideals of the society: and the flaming torch, signifying their purpose to follow the light of truth. The four principles ofthe society--Character, Leadership. Scholar- ship, and Service-'were personihed by four veteran members. climaxing one of the most beautiful occasions of the year. Having received one of the highest honors paid to students, the old and new members combined with determination to match the successes of former years. Club oflicers, vice- president, Mary Lou Dillong secretary, Suzanne Slate: treasurer, Margaret Stameyg and ad- viser, Mrs. Rogers. provided president Tommie Lentz with suggestions for the year's work. Betas Maintain l"ligl1estScl1olastic verages 1 ' " Serving as an incentive to lowcr classmen to keep up their scholastic average is the National Beta Club. All jun- iors whose grades average 92 and seniors whose grades aver- age go are eligible for membership. Achievement in tasks undertaken, leader- ship in home and school, and outstanding character at all timesfthese three virtues brought lifty new members into the Beta Club on November 22. 1949, in a simple but dignified ceremony conducted by Bob Fountain, presi- dent. After solemnly taking their vows the students were warmly accepted by the older members and together they began the year's work.
