this book to the great spirit of progress through education, which during
these past fifty years has transformed our schools from the frame build-
ing of 1897 into the great institution which it is todayg and through
these pages express the hope that this spirit will never die, but will live
on to increase in richness and power, nourished by those men and women
who have seen and felt the benefit of a school for which they will al-
ways hold fond memories and a great deal ofpride. A long way it has
come and a long way it has to go. ln fifty years from what sort of
school system will the students ofHigh Point High School look back to
us? life cannot safely forecast the future of education because we can-
not realize fully the potential strength of a truly great system. At any
rate, we may be sure that it will ever advance forward from mark to
mark along the way to perfection.
