TIPTON QCapt. Electj DAv1s QCapt.D HOUSEWRIGHT
Fullbach Halfback Halfback
The 1926 Season
With the starting of football practice Coach Curtis found that his problem for the year was to develop
a line. He had five veteran backs. He soon realized Zeke Tipton's punting ability and Roy Housewright's
passing as two line assets. Koontz was picked after little delay as center.
Curtis, with the aid of Captain "Sweety" Davis, put his men through hard workouts in Worth Field
every afternoon for four hours steady. The effects of this developed a pretty strong line out of the new
material by the first of the season, and a good back field. Abbott began to step forth as quarterback.
First Row: Phelps, Van Zandt, lrladen, Marsh, Bobo, Mims. Parks, Broils, Curtis QCoachD.
Second Row: Mays, Henry, Koontz, Davis CCapt.J, Housewright, Cabiness, Barrett.
Third Row: Beard, Abbott, Ridgeway, Tipton, Mitchell, Barlow, Waldrop.

HADEN BROILES KOONTZ
End Tackle Center
The Panthers won a moral victory in their irst intercity game when they held the Forest Avenue Lions,
runners-up for the State Championship last year, to a victory of only live points.
Due to a drizzling rain which began in the first half and lasted through the rest of the game, the
Panthers were unable to make another point after the rain began.
In their second intercity game the Panthers tied the Oak Cliff Leopards, runners-up for championship this
year, 6 to 6. Central's line easily stopped Lumpkin, but weakened in the last quarter and allowed Carver to
rush the ball down the field for a touchdown. lt was the best showing that Central made in the entire
season, due to stiff competition.
Neither team threatened the other's goal in the first half, but was forced to punt nearly every time they
got the ball. Central's touchdown came late in the third quarter after Tipton had punted outside on Oak
Cliff's five-yard line. Beard broke through and blocked Carver's punt and Davis fell on the ball over the
goal. Davis' kick for point was wide.
