Across the room sits a girl of the gay nineties escorted by a pirate, brave and boldg on the floor a Spanish couple is dancing, not the rhumba, but the Big Apple. We have crept un- noticed into the first school party of the year, The Masquerade Ball, held on Hallowe'en night. We are fortunate in watching the spooky skit. 'KThe Lighthouse Tragedyfl in which Armand Gamme makes his debut as an actor, the rest of the cast being veterans of the stage. The Professor Wise Owl program and the Chamber of Horrors in- form us of the fate awaiting the teachers, and now Iiarl Haugen is being accused of slitting the throat of an innocent, unsuspecting hot dog. Ice cream, cake, and punch taste mighty fine when eaten on the bleachers, but we can only nibble at the crumbs. Couples are dancing to the coun- try's finest orchestras through records and the public address system. The party, sponsored by the senior class, is a decided success. Our magic carpet is off again, and here we are at another party, The Yule Hop, dancing with Christmas spirit to the music of Sherm Myers' orchestra. This is a Boys' Night Off affair, which means the girls bring the boys. Chet Swanson and Connie Kiel sing together, and they certainly du-et well. The committees of the party are to be congratulated for a splendid evening. Tempus fugit, and the Semester jubilee is in full swing. Rosalie becomes a song hit after the harmony trio of Margaret Dunham, Alice Greseth, and Marvel jasper vocalize it for us. We think tap dancing tops when Katherine Schuler is the dancer! VVe like Chet Swanson, The Singing Delivery Boy, as he calls himself. irls, of all kinds and sizes. Here we are at the skating rink, and it's mighty cold. The girls have been divided according to their grades, the whistle blows, and thev're off! If vou haven't . . ' ' A I guessed, it s the Ice Larnival of january 22, con- ducted by the Girls' Athletic Association under the general chairmanship of Nina Iverson. Oh, my feet are frozen! Once again we have crawled past the doorkeeper. unobserved, and are taking our customary seats under the bleachers. An auctioneer is auctioning off boxes of all descrip- tions. What is in them? Lunch! And ,you can A Bit of Magz'e bf MARVYL TORRANCE buy one for only ten cents. VVhat's the date? November 17, and the Box Lunch party. My, but I'm sleepy. I just woke up to find the clock has been turned back several years. Lveryone is in hair ribbons and pigtails, with bibs, toys, dolls, rattles, and candy sticks. I've slept right through to the March 5 Kiddie Party. All the girls, teachers in- cluded, are playing nursery gamesg and there's a tiny tots parade, a rhythm band, and Cindy Lou's Dancing School. Tonight the school dance band under the direction of Marian Olson is making its debut, and the two hundred and twenty- five girls are dancing the Big Apple. Doris Woodstrom as chairman assisted by co-chairman Luverne Hendrickson make this party a great-is that a hair ribbon on my ear? arties are an outstanding feature on the junior high program this year. On February 25. we nibble our way into the ninth graders, Hay- seed Hooliganf' which has the farm as the theme for decoration. Here is a grand march and now a Dick Espe as master of ceremon- program with ies. How everyone laughs during the skit, Blanco Mindonl Pauline Tygeson and Obert Skodje are crowned King and Queen of Hicks. What run- ning and jumping and laughing! I'm completely out of breath. Goblins Zlllfl witches do their worst the night of the eighth grade party. From under the bleachers we listen to David Vogele play two violin selections, Joyce Mullen sing, Ramona Foss dance. But cats are aplenty, so off we go. On February 25, parents of the eighth grade students. and We, too. enjoy a hobby display explained by the students themselves. ave you ever wondered what the teachers do outside of school? Let's spy on them. The aroma of coffee issues from the home economics room, where, every other week, the teachers, have a coffee party. With Mr. Obermeyer as toastmaster, Mr. Thorson directing the singing, and a real Santa Claus how could the Faculty Christmas party at the Red and Gold Room help but be a success. The teachers have their share of fun during their receptions, teas, and faculty din- ners, and oh .... there comes a cat, quick, magic carpet, back to the Held, for I can stand this city life no longer.
