The four class otlicers. Cortland Miller, president: Doris Palmer. vice-president: George Zahner, treasurer: and Ieanette Rowley, secretary, head the list. Three members of the class received a straight A average and were announced as yaledic- torians. They were Gertrude Peterson. Lorraine Swan, and George Zahner. Other members who attained the National Honor Society were Doris Palmer. Carl Michal- son, and Ruth Iellries. It is interesting to note that Ruth was an active member in ten dilferent xhool organizations. Lawrence Mammen had the lead in the class play, 'KDaddy Long Legsf, Doris. as Miss Pritchard: Ruth. as Sally: Gertrude, as an orphan: George and Cortland as trustees: and Carl as Iimmy Mcliride were also in the class play. George Roscoe was exceptional in two niaior sports, basketball and football. throughout his high school career. He received one of the two gold ftrotballs awarded for marked ability on the football squad. Carl was a prominent member of the Mimes and Mummers, appearing in many of their productions. He was also all-city, as well as local president of the Hi-Y boys. George Zahner. Doris Palmer. and Carl Michalson were all on the News staff, George serving as editor-in- chief. Ruth Ielfries. Carl Michalson. Cortland Miller. Doris Palmer. Gertrude Peter- son. leanette Rowley. Lorraine Swan. and George Zahner were all members of the senior cabinet. lx

The National Honor Society is made up of students who stand at the top ot their class. Everyone who has an average of 2.5 for his three years senior high school work automatically hecomes a memher. Others may he elected to it hy the faculty. though the membership is limited to 13: ol the class. Central High received its charter to the National Honor Society on May six- teenth. nineteen hundred and twenty-three. It was the seventh school in the United States to receive a charter to that society which was founded in Fehruary. nineteen hundred and twenty-one. The Ianuary Class reached the high spots in having three valedictorians with a straight A average.
