This year, the news has been full of triumphs and tragedies, scandals and schemes. Events such as the Iran-Contra affair,the U.S.S. Stark di- saster, numerous plane crashes, and America’s involvement in the Per- sian Gulf are among the happenings that grabbed America’s attention. De- spite these occurences, America’s spirit has been uplifted. Scientists are coming closer to finding a cure for rapid- ly-spreading and deadly Aids, and we all celebrat- ed the 200th anniversary of our own constitution in grand American style. America is a few steps closer to “‘peace” with Russia, and great efforts on America’s part have been made to help oth- ers in times of need. 1987-88 has definitely been an eventful year for the United States; one which we will certainly remember. .
