1952 -1953 BASKETBALL Central Tigers were successful in the preliminary games of the season by defeatrng the majority of their opponents. The teams debut in the W. M. I. League was somewhat disappointing: nevertheless, our boys, displaying fine sportmanship, gave the opposing teams and coaches many moments of suspense. The outstanding players were Thompson Waddell, Andrews, Turnbull and Cuthbertson. GIRLS' BASKETBALL , In September, Mrs. Pauline Hamilton called a meeting of the girls who were in- terested in basketball. Those chosen for the squad were the following: Forwards-- Martha Ann Staup, Co-Captain, Colleen Ralston, Mary Dorothy Kirkwood, Norma jean Fazenbaker, Shelva Wilson, Virginia Hardegan, Elsie Colburn, Jo Ann Connor, Darlene Getson, Catherine Jones, Martha Jane Lewis. Guards--Norma Jean Bradley, Captain: Leona Stafford, Shirley Smith, Joyce Thorpe, Frances Schlereth, Lesta Eichhom, Mary Alice Clark, Darlene Stephens, Carlene Boeettcher, Norma Jean Ravenscraft, Mary Elizabeth Braskey, Anna Mae Bishop, Score Keeper--Joan Abbottg Time Keeper- -Sue Sowers. CENTRAL HIGH'S STATE CHAMPIONS Class B, 1952 Basketball Left to right: R. O. CENTRAL WINS STATE TITLE AGAIN Our 1951-52 State Championship Basketball Team was feted at two banquets last spring. The Lonaconing Lions Club gave them a dinner to honor the champs, and the Central Booster Club also honored them. Our boys won the State Class B Basketball title last spring, rallying twice, once against Oakland in the last minute and against Easton in the final to win out. Our stars were Tommy Kelly, Skits Robertson and Rich Waddell. Well done, Tigers -- State Champs!
