In 1890 with eight classrooms, Central made her humble beginningg today she may boast of twenty three classrooms, plus music, industrial arts, physical education, and home economics departments, and the Library. Every square inch of space is utilized to the limit, Her 1784 graduates and countless quondam students cherish the ideals, traditions, and privileges which have been so much a part of life at Central. We, the Class of 1953, proudly dedicate this eighth issue of the CENTRALIAN to CEN- TRAL HIGH SCHOOL with the hope that her BEST will be emulated in her successor, the NEW CENTRAL. In 1949, boarding the good SHIP CENTRAL, we embarked on a four year cruise into un- familiar realms of learning and social activities. During Freshman year, we learned to obey our commanding officers and to adjust our- selves to life aboard the ship. We selected for our May Queen's Court Joyce Wamick and Helen Crable. ' With sails unfurled, we launched into our second year. Out mates participated in the activities of the numerous sports and clubs. We elected Khrista McKenzie and Mary Spiker to be our attendants in the Queen's Court. In the Junior year, our Good Ship, though buffeted by angry waves and variable winds, was steered safely through the turbulent waters by President, Jim Foote: Vice President, Bill Andrews: Secretary, Joyce Warnick: Treasurer, Marlene Wilson: and Mr. -William Saylor: Sponsor. Our class rings identified us more closely with life on Good Ship Cen- tral. May 29, we sponsored the Prom in honor of our Seniors: crew and passengers joy- ously swayed to the melody of the Blue Notes as we cruised over the peaceful waters. Marlene Wilson and Louise Dilfer represented us at the May Queen's court. With the final port just beyond the horizon, we chose the following officers to man SHIP CENTRAL through our Senior year--President, Eldon Nicol: Vice President, Bill Tum- bull: Treasurer, Marlene Wilson: Secretary, Joyce Warnick: and Mr. Joseph Haugen, Sponsor. Then as CENTRAL sailed the last knots of the boyage, we selected announce- ments and name cards, had graduation pictures taken, organized our Yearbook staff, and selected our Senior Class Play. Memorable events of the year were the Christmas Assembly and Semi-formal, the Minstrel, the Coronation of the May Queen, and the Junior-Senior Prom. Now port is in sight. We have spent important and enjoyable years together aboard SHIP CENTRAL, but in June we shall cross the bar : then embark upon diverse courses which will be influenced by our trip aboard CENTRAL. Our newly elected class officers are: President, Jimmy Kellyg Vice President, Joan Abbottg Secretary, Johann Rennie: .and Treasurer, Colleen Ralston. With the welfare of the Junior Class in the hands of the newly elected officers, we start our sports events by practicing for the basketball games. Our stars on the teams are Todd Cuthbert- son, Jim Kelly, John Wilson, Bob Warnick, Bill Patton, Bob Humphreyg Martha Ann Staup, Colleen Ralston, Leona Stafford, Mary Braskey, Frances Schlereth, Shirley Smith and Norma Jean Fazenbaker. The girls Ruth Freeman, Jo Anne Carter and Johann Rennie who are on the cheerleading squad helped our teams to victory. We began our public speaking activities by writing our first big important essay, I Speak for Democracy. ' Last, but not least, comes the social events which keep us all in a dither. This year, Juniors are active in most of the clubs and organizations of the school. We have even begun to think and plan a little for the biggest dance of the season, the Junior-Senior Prom. ,, IV 'Q Y ' QE i fi ,J ti! This dance certainly was a social and a financial success, so we are hoping that in all their sports events during the year our teams will have their share of victories. The Art Club beat the Seniors to the draw by having their dance on October 3. But it wasn't long until the dignified Senior got their name on the list. On October 15, the CENTRALIAN having been formulated, the rhythm, rhyme and romance dance provided fun for all. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of Mr, and Mrs. Romance. Swing your partner, now Do-Ci-Do --has been echoing from the gym as Mr. Baldwin's newly organized Folk Dance Club practiced after school. This social-all-for-fun-club is gladly as- sisting students eager to learn the square dance figures. Come one--Come all--To Central l-ligh's Mardi Gras --sponsored by the Student Forum. The chocks and shivers of the Spook Houseg the foretelling of your future, the romantic kiss of Arabia and dancing were yours to enjoy. Best of all, didn't everyone have fun! ln a gaily decked gym, the Booster Club held a formal dance for us on October 24. Everyone had a merry time swirling to the harmonious strains of music furnished by the Aristocrats. The dance not only fulfilled every student's twirl desire, but also provided funds for our new basket- ball and cheerleader uniforms. As the spirit of Christmas filled the air, the Student Forum planned the Christmas Dance. The colorful decorations, plus the inspiring musical strains of Eddie and Edna, transformed the gym into a White Wonderland. To add to the hustle-bustle of Valentine's Day, a Sweetheart Dance was held. Of course, a king and a queen were chosen and coronated with heart shaped crowns. We hope you didn't miss this one. At long last, our dream of dreams has become a glorious reality. Every Central lass seemed to feel like Cinderella, as she awaited the arrival of her Prince Charming in his golden coach to attend--yes--you guessed it-- The Junior-Senior Prom. But our happiness, unlike Cinderella's, did not vanish at midnight--for the precious memories of this dream -come-true will remain with us always. wg: xx 22 ' qi ......F ' IB -- Ig 1.9 I.
