--f -1 -r GIRLS SPORTS For the first time in several years a girls' team has been established in basketball. Only one other school in our district, which is Bruce, had a team which we could compete against. Central's team was organized under the direction of the coach, Miss Julia Wetzel. The line-ups of the team are: Forwards Guards Dorothy Wilson Margie Bradley Jean Orr Shirley Foote Wilma Thompson Elmeda Castle Alma Henry Marion Crosser Lois Cook Jean Ralston Eva Boettcher Dorothy Brown The Central Tiger Girls were victorious in their first game, playing at Bruce. The score was 18-l l. Dorothy Big Dot Wilson played an outstanding game. Unfortunately during the second game, even with the quick-witted Lois Cook, who took the spotlight at this time, the girls were defeated. Bruce won with the score 22-21. In both games outstanding playing and sportsmanship was displayed by botn teams. We sincerely hope that Central will take steps towards organizing a permanen' girls' team.

Xe? - . s We BASKETBALL J, Green R. RGlSfOr'l P, Cook M. Eichhorn W. Rowan, Coach Carrington P. Preston B. Muir H. Stafford .l. Love A. Patton Once again, this year's basketball team was composed of inexperienced players, with only one regular remaining from the i946-47 team. Despite this decided handicap they entered the season with determination to fight and continue fighting right to the finish, no matter what the results of the games might be. This spirit was evident at all of the games played, even though the percentage of games won was low. We feel proud of this fact. Among Central's victories this year were wins over Bruce and Oakland. Other outstanding games were played against Barton and Shanksville. The climax of the season was reached when Central met Bruce in a game to determine the Class C champions. Unfortunately, Bruce was the victor in a thrilling encounter played on the neutral floor at Piedmont. ' Next year, with a large number of holdovers returning, Central is looking forward to a successful season. We feel sure that if the same enthusiasm is shown then as was shown this year, it will be a successful season. Good luck, fellows, we'll be with you.
