Two out ot every three vets at Central High School are ex-sailors. The rest are ex-marines, merchant marines, coast guardsmen, and army men. Some ol these vets went in tor extra-curricular activities around Central this year. lim Henley and Sam Clements were cheerleaders, Bill Colvin was on the track team, and Sam Clements'and Gordon Vander Myde were in the Variety Show. The latter also took part in the all-school play. Veterans played an important part at all basketball games, as most of the students can testify. They yelled their lungs out and never admitted defeat until the last horn sounded. Most of them are graduating this year, and all will long remember Central. 110

Veit, R. VanRyn, V. Petrilli, F. Smith. Central's senior play, Hlanuary Thaw , a rousing comedy by Bellamy Partridge was presented on November 20, 2l, and 22 to a sellout audience that totaled over 2000. Vincent Petrilli and Susan Rogers co-starred as Herbert and Marge Gage, a couple from New York. The part of lonathan Rockwood, who didn't hold with modern inconveniences , was hilariously played by Chuck Westra, Pat Kernpter played his wife, Mathilda. The situation grew quite tense in the New England larrnhouse, where the two families lived. The Rockwoods disagreed with the Gages on modern conveniences, on political parties, and on who owned the house. The rest ol the seniors in the cast played small town characters. Uncle Walter, a talkative elderly neighbor, who stole the show, was Russ Van Ryn. lt took the combined efforts of all the committees and Miss Dalebout to make ulanuary Thaw a success.
