MEMORIAL The auditorium was darkened. Through the waiting silence broke the first strains of Rhapsody in Blue . The curtain rose, and under the spotlight shone a Hammond organ. Thus it was that the class of '47 presented its memorial to the school. lt was something unusual and useful, and its early date of presentation, December l9, made it possible for the class that presented it to receive some of its benefits. The spirit of the class of '47 will long be remembered through its beautiful and outstanding contribution to Central. As the Class of l947 leaves Central, they are both sad and proud. They are sad at leaving the school they have played in and worked in for six years. Memories they will carry away, memories of their many activities, of their class discussions and debates, and of the personalities of their teachers. ' The seniors are proud of their contribution to Central. Not only have they presented an original memorial, the organ, but they have also set many precedents. They sponsored two major plays, revived Central's Vaudeville Show, sold cokes in the gym at noon, sponsored dances, and presented their memorial in time for the Christmas Assembly. 108 ,,, -.-,-.,,v ,,........,.,',1 A-1-, .. l A. Vincent Petrilli and Susan Rogers co-starred as Herbert and Marge Gage, a couple from New York. The part of lonathan Rockwood, who didn't hold with modern inconveniences , was hilariously played by Chuck Westra, Pat Kernpter played his wife, Mathilda. The situation grew quite tense in the New England larrnhouse, where the two families lived. The Rockwoods disagreed with the Gages on modern conveniences, on political parties, and on who owned the house. The rest ol the seniors in the cast played small town characters. Uncle Walter, a talkative elderly neighbor, who stole the show, was Russ Van Ryn. lt took the combined efforts of all the committees and Miss Dalebout to make ulanuary Thaw a success.
