good teams. They are called the Big Reds and this year had won their preliminary games by large scores and were predicting a state Championship team. However, when they played Central this thought was changed: they were doomed to defeat. The first half was scoreless, but in the third quarter Lansing weakened and was forced to resort to a safety and a few minutes later had their goal line crossed for the first time. Thus the game at Lansing ended 8-O in favor of Central. It was a great game. A week later our team played Catholic Central at Houseman Field before a crowd of eight thousand people. The battle waged back and forth for a long time, but in the third quarter Catholic crossed our goal line. This seemed to inspire them so that, hght as our boys did, they were unable to reduce the lead of six points. This was a hard defeat, for it not only disqualified us for the state title but placed the city title far out of reach. The Central-South game a week later left Central in a much better posi- tion. Although up to that time South had not shown a great deal of strength that day she exhibited some line pass work. During the lirst quarter the ball was worked up and down the held and was several times in scoring position, but each time South held for downs. In the second quarter, however, Bill Irwin made the only score of the game when he fell on a punt blocked by Irv Simpson back of South's goal line. lt was an exciting game, for often South threatened with her offense.
