anet 'Pxafe ieccf The '54 Tribe first gathered in the Fall of '51 under the Big Chief's Tepee of Central High School to become the lowly Sophomore warriors of ’51-'52. It was during this moon that the Senior warriors initiated the new ones to the ways and customs of life on the new reservation. Also, during this moon, the mighty Warriors proved their prowess by scalping the opponents for the Class A Western Slope Basketball Championship. Many of the tribe—non-participating warriors squaws - accompanied the mighty ones on to Denver for the State tourney. Many a memory stays with us yet of that trip. Our Warriorwise advisors, Barr and Baldwin, gave us their guiding hands during this moon. Chief Ronnie Lamb was our leader for the season. With more knowing countenance and more stalwart physique, the growing tribe gained their due prestige as Junior Warriors under the able leadership of Sandy Harris, Chiefs Larrimore and Baldwin. Our clan presented for all to see the play, Little Miss Fixit. Then came the feasting and merriment to be arranged for the mighty W arriors of '53, who were to soon leave us and seek new reservations. We chose the theme for our guests of Moonlight Bay. Shouts of merriment and ovation were heard from near and far. The group of us then ventured to the Glenwood reservation for a day of swimming, sunning and feasting to end the season. Upon completion of our growth and reaching our full stature we became the chiefs in the fall of 1953, selecting as our Big Chief, Bud Sanford and having as our sage advisors. Chief Chavies and Princess Jenkinson. The dramatic skill of the group was presented in Such Things Happen. We were then hosted to a spectacle to be matched by none and surpassed by only one - our Harbor Lights Festival in May. Many a happy memory was brought about that wonderful evening. To get away from it all the tribe once again this year journeyed to Glenwood for a day of relaxation and enjoy- ment. All too soon we realize we must leave our beloved friends and loyal tribesman with a sobering note from Rev. Scates and a thoughtful challenge from Dr. Hoshall for the future. We emerged on June first as tribe leaders emeritus. Behind us are our memories; before us is our happy hunting ground. Behind us lies the path of learning; before us lies the road to success.
