debating club TheDEBATlNG CLUB members are seen taking notes while Peggy Flowers procedes to uphold the affirmative side on the question concerning the National Debate Prosition which IS Resolved that the Federal Government should sustain the prices of maior agricul ture Products at not less than 903 of Parity. The DEBATE TEAM started the year's activities by attending a debate workshop held at Carson Newman in December. Their first tournament was also held at Carson Newman. lt was sponsored by the American Legion and concerned the adoption of the Bricker Ammendmentg it was held at U.T. the Central debaters have won this tournament of the past five years, and they were proud to come out on top again this year. For a week our debators attended the tournament which was held at the Univer- sity of Virginia where they debated with teams from all the South. The last tournament they participated in was the Tennessee lnterscholastic Literary League held at the University of Tennessee. IIS

The Beta Club of Central High School is a branch ofthe National Beta Club and is an organization based on achievement, service and leadership. The officers for this year were as follows: president, Jerry Milstead, vice president, Charlie Hughes, secretary, Ann Story, treasurer, Nelson Farmer, and reporter, Jennifer Hamilton. This year the Beta Club sponsored, in co-operation with the Key Club, the Student Roster. They also helped raise money for an exchange student through the annual Talent Night. Members were in charge of the Campus Clean-Up Cdmpaign. A large group attended the state convention in Nashville where they supported Bill Fryar for State Vice President.
