Central-28 - Bearden-6: The Bobcats chris- tened the 1954 gridiron season with a solid victory over the Bearden Bulldogs. Led by Barney Giddens, Ken Colquitt, Don McNeil, and Captain Bob Smith, the Red and Black eleven scored in every quarter. The Cats marched downfield to the opposition's 5 and 20 yard lines in the f1rst and second quarters respectively, but both drives were halted by Bradley's sturdy line. Bradley scored in the last nine seconds of the third quarter and maintained the lead throughout the rest of the game. Central-12 - East-12: Plagued by blocked punts Central's attack bogged down on a wet, soqqy Evans-Collins Field. Ken Colquitt tallied in the first quarter on a spectacular 76-yard run from scrimmage. Don McNeil followed suit with another long run later in the same quarter, but it was called back because of a penalty. After East had con- verted two of Barney Gidderfs blocked punts into scores, the Bobcats fought back with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to gain the tie.
