The Debating Team this year participated in three major tournaments. ln the first part of the year they debated in the American Legion Tournament. The affirmative team composed of Frank King and Gene Case placed first, and the negative team com- posed of Eddie Solomon and lohn Iellicorse finished second. For their efforts the debaters were presented individual metals and a team plaque. This was the third year Central had won the debates, and as a result the school gained permanent possession of the large winners cup offered by the Legion. lohn also received a medal as the Best Debater in the tournament. Early April found members of the team in Memphis for the Southern Speech Associa- tion Tournament. Here they debated with teams from all over the South. The last tournament in which they took part was the Tennessee lnterscholastic Literary League held at the University of Tennessee in late spring.
