FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA There are three chapters of Future Home- makers ot America at Central High with a total ot 2110 girls enrolled. These chapters are affiliated with the State and National F. H. A. Some ot the proiects undertaken during the year are: filling thirty Red Cross boxes, selling thirty Volunteer Cook Books, filling Thanksf giving basket, sending tood, clothing and toys to children in our community at Christmas, giving a Freshman Tea in the fall, a Senior Tea in the spring. Mrs. Lawrence Kennedy, chapter mother for Chapter Ill, entertained the members with a tea at her home on March 12. Christmas and Valentine parties were held at the school. F. H.A. Day was held at Central High on April 3. Twenty-three members with three advisors attended the State F. H. A. Convention March 18, 19, and 20. The purpose of the Future Teachers of America is to instill in young people the desire to teach and to become acquainted with the profession as a whole. On February 24 four FUTURE TEACHERS girls were representatives to the Council of Southern Mountain Workers at Gatlinburg. The Second Annual District Convention of the F. T. A. was held March 5 at the First Chris- tian Church. Each year a senior girl from each chapter competes for the S100 scholarship presented by the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Central's chapter raised money to present a scholarship to one of the senior members in recognition of his outstanding achievements. Future Teachers meet on the first Wednesday of every month.
