GYM ASSISTANTS The boys' gym assistants help the students on funda- mentals of gymnastics in basketball, volleyball, tumbling, baseball, softball, and football. They give exercises, call the roll in class, and till the coke machine. The girls' gym assistants conduct the gym classes' when Miss Miller is not present to do it, They referee basketball, volleyball, and kickball games so there will be fair play in the classes. Row! The Library Assistants are chosen by Miss Venable. These students help with the library work before and after school and between and during classes. They are chosen on the basis of dependability, ability, leadership, and scholarship. The boys and girls in the Kitchen Club help serve the lunches in the cafeteria. The boys run the dishes through the sterilizer, keep food on the counters, and help keep the kitchen and lunchroom clean. The girls serve the food and fix the salads. Any other odd ' jobs that need doing in the kitchen are done by these students. I It is the duty of the Office Assistants to help with any emergency that arises in the school, to help in the office by answering the telephone and running errands. They are chosen on their ability, efficiency. and general attitude. 1

DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION The D. E. Club elected these people for officers for the year of T953-19541 Marlene Redding, president, Fred Dodson, vice-presi- dent, Mary Ann Thornburg, secretary, and Bonnie Jo Hall, treasurer. This club has been active in all organized activities this year. Delegates were sent to the State Convention in Nashville where Marlene Redding was elected vice-president of the East Tennessee District. All the members attended the Regional Con- vention held at the University of Tennessee, at which they received the trophy for the best D. E. club by placing in every contest and Marlene Redding attended the National Con- vention in San Antonio, Texas. xfv
