ringer as president, Bob Mulkey as vice-presi- dent, Shirley Tindell, as secretary, and Dick Booker as treasurer. Diane Darling Chead cheerleaderj, Barbara Akers, Anne Hart, and Rosemary Harrington led our cheers. The band chose pretty Shirley Tindell as band sponsor, and Tommy Graves was drum major. Barbara Giddens, Blond Nicely, and Joyce Sharp were again chosen as our attrac- tive maiorettes. The four-stripe officers for this year were student conductor G. T. Bal- lenger, band captain Bobby Chambers, and concert master Jack Watson. The band won and A-I rating at the State Festival in Johnson City. Barbara Akers edited our annual, and Marcia Case was editor-in-chief of the regular Centralite. Mr. Cate again sponsored both our publications. Jane Ferguson received the D.A.R. Citizen- ship Award. J. C. Everhart, Richard Hill, Barbara Cole, Bill Gross, Marcia Case, Alvin Webb, Verna Sue Todd, and Nancy Kotz had parts in the play, Girl-Shy, which was presented by the dramatics department. Leading our football team were Captain Bob Curington and Alternate Captain Dick Booker. Gary Drinnen was Captain of the boys' basketball team, and Bob Dafferner was the Alternate Captain. The girls' basketball team won the 6th District Tournament. Barbara Akers was the Captain and Anne Hart was the Alternate Cap- tain. Barbara, Anne, and Pat Falkner were placed on the All-Tournament team. Miss Hicks, Mr. Sanders, and Coach O. C. Lloyd were the Senior Class sponsors. Class Night was held May 29, 1953 at the school. Baccalaureate was held at Central Baptist Church on Sunday, May 31, 1953. On June l, 1953, graduation exercises were held at the U.T. auditorium. The close of this year marks the end of our adventurous high school career. We sincerely thank all the faculty and Mr. Loy who have worked diligently to make these such worth-while years. TORY OF THE C ASS OF I9 It doesnt seem possuble that un 1949 four years ago we clumbed thus hull to a wonderful excutung future To start out our freshman year we elected offucers They were Ted Murruan as presudent Don Carrunger as vuce presudent and Shurley Tundell as secretary and treasurer Vuvacuous Jackue Cooper was chosen from our class to cheer our athletes on to vuctory The Glee Club receuved an A ratung un both the dustruct and state contests under the durectuon of Mrs Elsue Thomas The band back under the able dnrectuon of O Dell Wullus was awarded an Al ratung at the East Tennessee Festuval and an A 2 ratung at the State Festuval un Memphus After our mud term examunatuons thurty seven freshmen were taken unto the Junuor Honor Socuety Nancy Kotz was awarded the P T A Award for the hughest freshman average The Alge bra Cup was awarded to Jummy Truan Jackte Cooper Pat Falkner Shurley Tundell and Blond Nucely were our candudates for May Queen Coach Ed Osborn and Coach O C Lloyd sponsored our allday outung at Bug Rudge whuch was a lot of fun and a wonderful clumax for our freshman year In the sunny September of 1950 we trouped back up the hull wuse C71 and angeluc WJ sophomores Electuon tume rolled around and we elected the followung offucers Don Carrunger presu dent Ted Murruan vuce presudent Shurley Tun dell secretary Duck Booker treasurer Chosen as cheerleaders from our class were Shurley Tundell and Duane Darlung The band receuved an Al ratung at the State Festuval un Knoxvulle They also made a trup to Floruda for the Jacksonvulle Landon Hugh School football game wuth us Under the durectuon of Mrs Elsue Thomas the Glee Club receuved a superuor ratung at uts festuval Joe Cook Fred Sanner Barbara Cole and Jack Watson took parts un the three act play Our Town 40 Barbara Akers and Dorus Asbury tued for the hughest average grade un the Sophomore Class The Algebra Cup went to Jummy Truan and Dorus Asbury and Edward Menhunuck earned the Lucy Templeton Burd Awards On May Day Sue Hatcher was crowned May Queen Pat Falkner was maud of honor and Jackue Cooper and Shurley Tundell were un the court The bell rang and the thurd round began' Offucers durung our uunuor year were Don Carrunger presudent Ted Murruan vuce presu dent Shurley Tundell secretary Duck Booker treasurer Coach O C Lloyd and Coach Dan Borung were chosen as sponsors Representatuves from the Junuor Class who led our yells were Duane Darlung Shurley Tun dell Barbara Akers and Rosemary Harrungton Three of the four hugh prancung mauorettes were chosen from our Junuor Class The twurlers were Barbara Guddens Blond Nucely and Joyce Sharp The Glee Club receuved an excellent ratung at the State Festuval un Chattanooga Mrs Frances M Yett was the durector The band agaun receuved top ratung and took a four clay trup through Kentucky A former Broadway hut The Man Who Came to Dmner was presented by the dra matucs department Members of our class who took part un the productuon were Marulyn Parker Joe Cook Fred Sanner Marcua Case Barbara Cole Nancy Shaver Walter Wrught and Bull Housely Seventeen members of our class gauned admussuon to the Senuor Honor Socuety J C Everhart won furst place for Central un the I Speak for Democracy contest Barbara Akers was guven the P T A award for the hughest average un the Junuor Class Marlene Jett was elected to represent us at Gurls State and Phulup Bradfute Jerry Rogers W A Arp and Luttrell Schettler represented us at Boys State On May Day Gaul Moore and Joan Robert son represented the uunuors un the May Queen s Court Joan was maud of honor To guude us through thus our last and dearest year at Central we chose Don Car 1 . . . . 1 1 1 . . , I .
