The Texas Centennial year has afforded club members an opportunity to see how even modern Texans of rugged character and Christian faith are indebted to the Romans in the fields of law, government, oratory, art, language, and litera¬ ture.

THALIA DRAMATICS CLUB In the spring semester dramatics is offered to the students of Sam Houston High School primarily that they may participate in the interscholastic one-act play contest and present a play for the seniors on Class Morning. In addition to this general program, numerous other programs are given within the classroom to aid the students in self-expression and the development of latent talent. The dramatics class has yearly assumed the same name as that of previous classes, “The Thalia Dramatics Club.” “The Lost Silk Hat” by Lord Dunsany was the play chosen for the interscholastic presentation, which took place at Albert Sidney Johnston Jr. High School, in the evening, April 8. The cast con¬ sisted of Louis Girard, William Wohlt, John Hueter, Ray Boyd, Kirlicks Knolle, and Ethel Calhoun. On that same day in the afternoon, another group of students gave “Pearls” at Foley Brothers’ “Town Hall,” for the members of the Parent-Teachers’Association and their friends. Those taking part were Lee Love, Betsy Ros s Bisphinghoff, Jane Darnaby, and Joe Jarrard. The sponsor, Mrs. Verna S. Hogan, directed both plays. Assisting the casts with their settings and property were Reuben Fine, Nayland Baxter, Jack Robert¬ son, Dodd Kirk, and Pullman Elizalde. Lee Love. Lillian Tomek. Jane Darnaby. Patsy Helton.
