BASKETBALL SUMMARY The 1933-34 basketball season began shortly after football season was ended. About fifty boys reported to Coach Duggan at the Y.M.C.A. Court. After two weeks of practice. Coach Duggan eliminated all of the boys except fifteen. Just before the Christmas holidays, the entire squad went to Pasadena where they handed the Pasadena quintet a sound thrashing. During the Christmas holidays Coach Duggan went to Indiana, and the team was put into the able hand of Assistant Coach Hudgings. During this period, the team played several practice games. The Tiger quintet beat Pasadena again and trounced the Beaumont Royal Purple in Houston and in Beaumont. Duggan returned as the holidays drew to a close, and he drilled the Tigers for the first interscholastic game. The San Jacinto Bears fell before the Tiger attack to the tune of 49-29. The Tigers showed lots of class. Sam Houston dropped the next two games to Davis and Reagan respectively. Both of these games were close, Davis winning by one point and Reagan winning by three points. The Tiger quintet redeemed itself the following week by beating Milby 27-26. This game ended the first half of the season. As the second half of the season got under way, Sam Houston was defeated by San Jacinto. The boys did not play heads-up basketball, and as a result the Bears won 25-16. The following week Davis again beat Sam Houston; tbis time it was by three points. The Tigers gave the Panthers a real battle until the final whistle blew. Sam Houston won the last two games from Reagan and Milby respectively. The Bulldogs gave the Tigers a close game, the final score being 27-26. Milby did not do as well, the Tigers winning by a score of 40-25. Tbe basketball team ended the season by winning half of the games and finishing third in the city race.

Coach Duggan Coach Duggan is also a splendid basket¬ ball coach. He has developed some fine basketball material. Assistant Coach Hudgings Assistant Coach Hudgings coaches the ' ’’’B” team and usually spends his time developing next year’s men. Captain Max ”Midget” Hyman Forward—’31, ’32, ’33 Letterman—’31, ’32, ’33 All-City Forward—’32, ’33 ”Maxie” has been individual h igh point man for the last two years. Tony ’’Bull” Adams Guard—’32, ’33 Letterman—’33 Tony was ineligible at midseason, but he played enough to letter in the first four games. Henry ’’Studious” Breaker Guard-Forward—’32, ’33 Letterman—’33 Henry was good at both guard and forward. Billy ’’White Horse” Byrns Center-Guard—’33 Letterman—’33 Billy’s individual score isn’t to be sneered at.
