BANE ln behalf of the entire Senior Class of l946, we, the Chieftain Staff, wish to dedicate this, our year book, to Dr. Laverne C. Bane. CAMP BONDS President Vice President MR. HARRY W. GIBSON DR. E. H. COACHMAN Member Member J. Carl Conner TO THE SENIORS OF l946: When millions have died that we may live and enjoy the freedcm of the earth, when the drums of battle have ceased and the smoke has cleared away, we can see more clearly the responsibilities that rest upon us as Americans ond particularly the You th of America for building a better world. Yes, the Youth of Military Age has conducted itself in the most glorious fashion. lt has assumed the greatest responsibilities of any generation in the world and has fulfilled those responsibilities but it has passed a areater responsibility to you,-that of sustaining the peace and building a world in which war can be no more. l am sure with the fine spirit of the Graduating Seniors of i946 through- out America as a whole., and you in particular, will assume this responsibility and will train your- self and take up the cross for the sake of humanity and for the coming generations. Ycu are to be con'gratu'oted for your achievements. Let us take them as a spring board and with a strong determination enter the task for the development of ourselves in cooperation with others that we may have a greater contribution to the peace and security of the world than those who have gone before us . With sincere thanks and kindest personal regards, Very sincerely yours. K. 6d7lZ 806464 Superintendent Muskogee City Schools pa, TO THE SENIORS OF l946: ln extending to you hearty congratulations on this happy occasion, allow me to present this quotanoni Are you in earnest? Seize this very min- ute, What you can do, or dream you can, be- gin ih Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin today to live creatively, What does it mean to live creatively? lt is to dream great dreams and to put foundations under them with hard work, To visualize yourself as the person you wish to be and to strive with courage toward your goal, To concentrate on building a life - not iust on making a living, to cultivate brood mental and spirit- uall horizons, to kee in tune with the infinite and with life's highest ideals. This, l think, is what is meant to live creatively. Le, A wwf, Dean TO Tl-lE SENIORS OF l946Q War - Prosperity - Depression-War: this has been the endless cycle during the history of man. The challenge to each succeeding generation is to learn how to reassemble its broken world into a pattern so firm and so fair that war cannot be possible. lf we are to succeed, the little men of earth, you and l and the countless millions like us, must cleanse our hearts of hatred, selfishness, and greed. For only as each man becomes his brother's keeper, can local, na- tional and international peace be achieved. As a gifted Journalist has pointed out, All we can do is fumble and try once more-try out of the memory of our anguish-and be as tolerant with each other as we can . We feel it is a great honor to be able to belong to the American Junior Red Cross, that we too can help further such wonderful work. This year we are especially proud to have a lOOQ6 mem- bership in Central High School. The officers of the council this year are: Clu Guloger and Libby Marshall, cio-chairmen, Mar- tha Jo Luton, secretary, Jim Hembree, treasurer, Mary Ellen Ash, program chairman. Central's Chapter assisted the 'Tulsa Junior Red Cross chapter in giving a Halloween party at Camp Gruber. Later a Christmasparty was also given at the Camp. Another project was the Christmas On High Seas. The quota was fifty boxes, and Central homerooms contributed 65 for the boys who would have to spend Christmas at sea. This year the Junior Red Cross has established a nutrition class for girls and a water safety class for boys. Also for the first time the council has a representative, Clu Gulager on the Senior Red Cross Board of Directors. The woodwork and art classes are always ready to cooperate, and they have helped make every Red Cross project a success. 1 M4 FRONT ROW-Landon Lockett, Betty Gordon, Demaris Jobe, Leona Singleton, Grantlen Shannahan, Hugh Meredith, Milton Weeks, Carolyn Stroup, Jo Ann Talley, Helen Dodson.
