Cunningham John Porter J. R. HOLMES Szlperinfendozzt of Muskogee City Schools To the Members of the Class of 1935: A great American once said, I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true, I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to the light I have. In the contests in which you have engaged in school, from the daily classroom activities to the all-school affairs, we hope that you have found it necessary to be true. In the contests of life outside the school may you live up to the light you have. The school has endeavored to kindle in you the fires of scholarship, leader- ship, character, and service, which may serve as torches throughout life. May they glow as candles set on a hill. With you go our sincere wishes for contin- ued success. Sincerely, J. R. Holmaf 6 L. M. SPEAKER Principal of Central High School To the Members of Our School Community: May I express the hope that, out of our ex- perience in living and working together in our school, there will come to each one of us those characteristics which will help us to contribute toward making ours a better and happier world in which to live. Build today, then, strong and sure, With a firm and ample base, And ascending and secure Shall tomorrow find its place. Sincerely yours, L. M. The Green and White lads were trailing S to 5 as the first quarter ended, due to the accurate shooting of Baker and Elliot, Tulsa forwards. Recil Allen and Lee Ryser got busy the second quarter and put the Roughers into the lead for the first and only time, but Baker regained the lead for Tulsa as the half ended, 12 to 11. February 2 - Still showing signs of raggedness that un- balanced their attack at Tulsa Friday night, the Central High Roughers barely man- aged to beat the scrappy Ok- mulgee Bulldogs 31 to 26 on ,gg the Rougher's court. Led by Bvffy Iifffymvml and Lee Ryser the Roughers pulled Hmm MU'fffr'f 'f'l away in the closing minutes, when he dropped in two charity tosses. In the preliminary the Cen- tral 'B' team defeated the Okmulgee 'Bi team 27-15. February 8-Due to Lee Ryser's ability to hit free tosses, the Central High School Roughers barely turned back the Bristow Purple Pirates, 26 to 25 Saturday evening on the Rougher's court. The pirates rallied in the final quarter and tied the score at 25. With less than a minute to play Ryser was fouled, and made the basket that was the game. The West High Eagles defeated the Central B Roxrmne Plummer team 20 to 13 in the preliminary game. February 12-The Muskogee Rougher's vision of a championship in the Oklahoma Six Conference were blasted when the Sapulpa Chieftains defeated the Roughers in the Chiefs' court last night, 29 to 26. The Green and White lads were leading at the half way mark by the score of 17 to 10. The Roughers seemed to let down the second half when Recil Allen and Bub Hall went out on fouls. Johnson, Chieftain guard, was the outstanding player of the game with 12 points. February 10-Playing before the largest crowd of the season and in- spired by the presence of Roxanne Plummer, the first basketball queen in the history of Central, the Rough- ers swamped the Fort Smith Grizz- lies, 49 to 24. Although the Green and White reserves played most of the game, the Grizzlies were outscored in Harvey H0 well every quarter except the last. Recil Allen, Rougher forward, walked away with high scoring honors when he ran up seven Held goals for a total of fourteen points. This was the last home game for the Roughers in the 1935 season. February 22-Closing their scheduled basketball season Friday night Central High Roughers easily de- feated the Bartlesville Wildcats, 31 to 17 on the Cat's Court. Muskogee led at the half 11 to 5 and at the three quarter mark 20 to 6. Virgil Mott and Recil Allen were Hub Hall, Fwmk Baker February 30-The Central basketball team won the Virgil Mott, Harold Luttrcll high scorers with 6 points each. With this game behind them the Roughers will rest in preparation for the District Tournament. February 29--The Roughers entered the District Tournament and defeated the Coweta High School Team with little difficulty by the score of 38 to 21. The whole team seemed to loaf through the game and did not play at top speed. However, the green clad boys had the situation well in hand at all times and were out in front 17 points at the end. District Tournament Championship with a win over Sallisaw Black Diamonds. The green team won by the top-heavy score of 40 to 7. Contrary to the prediction of the fans that this would be a close hotly contested fray, the Roughers turned the game into a riot by hitting the basket from all angles during the last half and going on to an easy victory.
