mmm wmmamm That Was Then CLASS OF 89! Wc opened these doors together and together we will close them. We started out as strangers and have grown together in f riendship. We have seen each other grow and mature over the years. All the long lunch lines and dreaded classes are finally over and the memories of sitting on the! hill will last forever. Remember the pep rallies, ballgames. victories and defeats, 7th hour, and long nights of homework. The good times we will cherish and the bad oncS we'll let go. In our final steps together we will walkBde by side. The memories will be cherished as we walk tCif receive our goal we have worked so hard to achieve. When we all go our separate ways, the bond between us will still hold true. The marks we’ve made w’e’Il leave behind, cause we are the Class of 89! by Cougar Senior Staff Members This Is Now! This Is Now!!! CLASS OF ’89 OFFICERS Miriam Glass — President comments on her future My future plans are to attend col- lege at California State University in Long Beach or Texas University and major in pharmacy. My minor may be broadcasting because I have an interest in journalism. 1 do not see a family in my near future. 1 plan to get well established in life so that I can provide for my family later on in life. Mark Holden — Vice President comments on leadership Being a ginni leader is very im- portant because a leader must be able to instruct his followers with fairness and justice. Nobody wants to follow someone who backs down from their word, or is two- faced. A leader has to be strong- willed, out-spoken, out-going, and intelligent. Why do I say this? He must be strong-willed to stand up to anything, out-spoken to speak out for what he she feels is right, out-going leaders can motivate others to take action, and intel- ligent enough to know what they arc doing. All these qualities will make a leader more respectable. Clarence Miller — Secretary-Treasurer comments on future accomplishments In the year of 88-89, I hope to accomplish alot of things for my senior class. I guess it would only be right for me to say that I hope that all my classmates and I grad- uate in 89. I hope to accomplish unity between my fellow class- mates, a bond of love that will follow us throughout our lives, and a sense of pride that all seni- ors should have. Since we are graduating at the end of the dec- ade that makes our graduating even more special. Monday all the seniors dressed in their finest attire to start off the Cougar spirit. Twins all over campus was a real winner on Tuesday. Dressing as the opposite sex was a big deal on Wednesday. On Thursday, we all degraded ourselves to look and dress like children. On the big day, Friday, our Cougar spirit shone through with Red and Blue Day. At the Homecoming Assembly, the A Capella Choir, directed by Dennis Burton, lead the celebration off with the “Alma Mater. The winner’s of the spirit contests are announced: Ms. Lynn's class won Most Spirited Classroom, Ms. Infield won Best Door Decoration,” and the An Club won with their club banner. The Class of 89 won the spirit chain contest with the Freshman class coming in second. The Junior class came in third place and the Sophomore class came in founh. Then the Homecoming Coun was announced and the band, directed by Stephen Alsup, played the Fight Song.” After the Homecoming Assembly, everyone went to Cherry Street for the Homecoming Parade. This event was the first one we have had in almost ten years. The parade started at the Doughboy and went down to Casqui’s, and then back to the Doughboy. The band won the prize for the parade. Before the game, the Homecoming Ceremony was conducted. The Homecoming Court was announced, Freshman maid — Shunwolisa Williams, Sophomore maids — Pamela Austin, Tammy Self, and Gabby Strauss, Junior maids — Kim Fitzgerald, Michelle Foreman, and Cathy Hardy. The Senior Maids were Jocelyn Campbell, Ashia Darnell, and Miriam Glass. Shawnessi Pilkington was crowned The 1988-89 Homecoming Queen by J. K. Holmes, Supervising Principal. An annual is not just a book about a school. An annual is a slice of time. It is about who we are, what we believe in, and why we feel the way we do during this time in our lives. Looking at Central High School in retrospect, we have learned what high school is and is not. High school is not just a building simply for the distribution of new information from the teacher to the student. It is a place for an individual to develop and share feeling, style, and personal taste and be included in the beat of a group. It is a culmination of teachers, scholars, athletes, artists, motivators, achievers, and friends. teaches us to make decisions, both good ones and bad ones. It forces us to deal with the consequences of those decisions. It is a place for love and hate. The people involved become a family. We begin high school as individuals but leave as one group. High school is about making the best friends we will ever have and about leaving these friends to move on in life. The experiences and memories of this time are something to grasp and hold on to. Never let go.
