Miller, a member of the Central High School faculty from 1963 to 1982. She loved the English language and taught hundreds of young people to love it and use it well. May this tapestry serve as a reminder of a dear colleague and master teacher, but may it also be an inspiration to students and faculty alike to strive for that excellence which characterized Vera’s life and work. 34 HONORS 35 Neal Beasley Donna Dunnings Brenda Bracy Honor Gradu- ates 36 Deborah Gentry Scott Jennings Donald O’Neill Richard Steinbeck “ 'Tis education forms the com- mon mind: Just as the twig is bent the tree’s inclined.” Alexander Pope John Richardson Susan Ward Michelle Wilson 37 DAR Good Citizenship Girl The Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored Emily Ann Freemyer as this year’s Good Citizenship Girl. As I stumbled, searching wildly in my heart. And she was there And understood And cried with me. My soul gazed up. The raging winds were stilled and the cool calm dark of night surrounded me. I looked up. And spoke to God. and felt His peaceful presence there. And she was there And understood And prayed with me. My soul soared The wind blew soft and cool against my face. I stood barefoot on the grassy hill and watched the misty clouds drift over a silver moon, and thanked God For the ecstasy of love. And she was there And understood And smiled with me. Jane Foote Chor. The race is not given to the swift nor the strong but unto the ones who endure unto the end; so don't give up: stay in the race. Love. Seniors of '83 Parting is such sweet sorrow! The Central High Cougars played hard and won often. Long hours of prac- tice paid off as they eluded tacklers and accumulated yardage, and successfully defended their own goal line. They worked together as a smoothly-functioning team and separately as skilled individuals, always paying the price for victory. 75 All-State Maceo Irby All- Conference 76 0. Britton Jr. — M. The Art Club is another op- portunity for art students to become con- scious of the beauty in Arkansas, but more specifically of the community in which they live. The Art Club has many young artists eagerly awaiting an opportunity to make a mark in society that is uniquely their own.
