Friendly NETTA BEAUCHAMP, Editor of the SMOKE SIGNAL, has shown her ability in many ways. She attended Girl ’ State and is a member of F.T.A. Football co-captain, JOHN BERGER, was chosen for the All Mid-South football team this year. He is President of the “C” Club. Ball Amiable Ml MI BOYLE serves as Vice Presi- dent of F.T.A. She is a consistent honor roll student and was a delegate to Girls’ State. 38 STEVE BRANDON, manager of the football, track, and basketball teams, is Treasurer of the Spanish Club. He was elected State Land Commissioner at Boys’ State. Dependable FRANK BROCATO, art editor of the CHIEF, served as a delegate to Boys’ State and a member of the All-State and All-Student U.S.A. Bands. Likeable DONALD CAKSON has been an active participant in both basketball and track. He attended Hoys’ State and is a member of the Student Council and “C Club. f JIM GATES, President of the Spanish Club, represented Central at Hoys' State and is an active member of the Student Council. SHARON CHL a majorette, is serving as Secretary of the Student Council. She repre- sented Central as a delegate to Girls’ State and was elected as a Sophomore and Junior Favorite. if am? Good-natured RAYNE GORDON is football co-captain this year. He is serving as the President of Medicul Careers and was elected a Sophomore and Junior Favorite. ALEC DARNALL, a National Merit Semi- finalist. has shown his scholastic ability. He is a football manager and is an active member of “C” Club and F.C.A. A Roys' State delegate, Jl I) (‘.RACE, has shown his ability in basketball. He is a member of the C Club and is also an annual staff memltcr. 39 An outstanding athlete. CHARLIE HANKS, has displayed his prowess on the basketball court. He is a member of the “C” Club and F.C.A. Effervescent MARGIE HORNOR, Editor of the CHIEF, was rhosen to attend Girls’ State. She has served Central as a cheer- leader for two years. TERRY HORNOR. Editor of the CHIEF, was the top magazine sales winner. She was a member of the Homecoming Court and an active member of the Spanish Club. MONTE HOLLOWELL, Treasurer of the Senior Class has lettered in football for three years. He is a member of the “C” Club and represented Central at Boys’ State. 0 NUNZIO MESSINA. The cheerleaders' pep rallies, bonfires, pep promotion at the games, and parades have spurred the Indians on to victory after victory. Their constant enthusiasm has embellished all the athletic events and provided a strong back- bone for school spirit. KATHY BROCATO BECKY JACKSON, Co Cap!. KAREN ELAM SUZI CORDON, Captain CENTRAL HIGH 60 CONCERT BAND The Central High Band under the direction of Mr. N. Stanley Balch was chosen to represent the state of Arkansas in the “Best Bands in Dixie Contest” during the 1968 Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The Band was selected from the ranks of best bands in Arkansas after winning first place in class A A marching contests at Arkansas A M College. After receiving the honor, the band conducted a vigorous fund-raising campaign to go to New Orleans. Governor Winthrop Rockefeller ex- tended his congratulations to the band and presented the band with a check for $500. The band promptly received a letter and a check for $600 from the mayor of New Orleans. The band won second place in the Dixie Division. He is now working toward a Masters Degree as a Guidance Counselor. He was Class Favorite in all four years of college, and was President of his Senior Class.
