FIRST SEMESTER TUDE T COUNCIL The purpose of the Student Council is to provide student government and to promote better relations with other schools. Its members are chosen by the homerooms while the entire school votes for the president and vice- president. In order to be a member of the Council, a student must have an 'M' average and good character ratings. The Council held meetings on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. This group of Centra1's finest were ably supported by their two sponsors, Miss Leibengood and Mr. Cooper. The first activity planned by the Council was a free mixer held in the boys' and girls' gyms. A United Campaign drive conducted by the Special Funds committee was then held in which the Central District contributed more than any other district. The School Spirit committee spearheaded the Home Coming activities. A Queen was elected and all the BOTTOM ROW, Left to Right: L. Davis, F. johnson, E. Turner, D. Caruthers, I. Scaife, B. Cubit, I.. Carter, A, Tucker, D. Thomas, D. Glass. ROW TWO: J. Janniel, R. Weldon, P. Denton, J. Lewis, P. Frierson, D. McIntyre, R. Marshall, J. Brown, T. Watson, C. Bryant. ROW stands were gaily decorated. The House and Grounds decorated the front hall for Christmas. The Safety committee conducted a Fire Prevention Week. Fire slips were passed out and collected by the committee. The Special Funds committee took charge of the March of Dimes campaign, their second project of the year. The Constitution committee proved to be one of the busiest for the Council as they revised the Council constitution, completed the Code of Ethics, and wrote the much needed Handbook. The final project for the first semester Council was a mixer for the purpose of raising money. This year, the Council was not only active in school affairs but also took an active part in the All-City Stu- dent Council and sent seven representatives to the re- gional meeting of Missouri Student Councils.
