Central's girls' basketball team lost only one game out of the sixteen games played.
This game was to Smithville. Algood has always given Central more regular compe-
tition than any other team we played. We beat them twice this year with a one-point
margin. Carrington is always responsible for that one point. Our girls were in many
people's minds the favorites in the last tournament. They walked over Algood and
Byrdstown as usual in the first two games, but Livingston, another favorite, 'loomed
ahead. This game was what I'd call heart-breaking, one-half minute to play, Liv-
ingston leading one point, Central shoots, the ball lodges on the goal, rolls off and-
the game ends. This ends the season for these girls who have played together for
four years and who won the Upper Cumberland Girls' Basketball Tournament four
years ago. All these girls graduate this year except Captain Hudson, Scott, Cole and
Reviewing our basketball season we find that the boys lost only four games out
of the seventeen played. These games were lost to four of the best teams in the
Upper Cumberland section-Smithville, Carthage, Algood and Sparta. Our boys seem
to have played under a handicap all the later part of the season with one of the
regular players always on the injured list. The Manchester game was played with
only two regular men, this being due to the football season not being over. Our
hardest games were the ones that were lost because they were uncomfortably close all
along. Central's boys' team drove Crawford in the local tournament, having beaten
them twenty-three points in the first of the season. The next game was with Smith-
ville. They were a good team and we knew it. This game was hard fought from
the beginning to the end. Central piling up a score in the first of the game and Smith-
ville in the fourth quarter fell back by one point.
Next came Baxter, who went down because Central was clicking in a more natural
style. The score was twenty-eight to nineteen in favor of Central. The elimination
of Baxter put the Purple and White warriors in the finals with Alpine, the strong
Green and White team of giants. This was the hardest fought game in the tourna-
ment and ended with Alpine in the lead.
Unfortunately Alpine was unable to attend the state tournament and the Central
runners-up were invited to fill the vacancy. Thursday morning Coach Watson car-
ried his Purple and White Cavaliers to Knoxville, where they were beaten by Engle-
wood. This ended the basketball season and disbanded a team of loyal men who had
fought together for four years.
The men who end their high school careers this year are: Wall Ccaptainl, Haile
fforwardj, johnson fguardl, Upchurch Cforwardj, Jared fforwardj, Caruthers
fguardj and Bush Cforwardl.
The "C" Club is made up of members of the teams who wear the C. These let-
ters only refer to football and to basketball. The club has enjoyed many good pro-
grams during the past year. Mr. Watson is one of the ablest coaches and sponsors
we know of and we are proud that fate gave him to us for these years.
