Sometimes we've had our problems Meek, small and dear, But there was always a comfort, In knowing you were near. Time will go on, and so will thee Years will pass and go But there will always' be a blessing When we think of the little things That don't always show. Though this isn't quite serious We believe that it is true We hope our quaint little meaning Comes through to you. There are many other things we'd Like to talk about The many many times that you have Helped us out Yes, we could go on and on with Our note to you But there are just some things, They don't give you Enough space to do. by Shirley Arther Table To ADMINISTRATION FACULTY GRADUATES UNDERCLASSMEN CALENDAR OUR BELOVED MAYBELLE CONGER Contents SPORTS ACTIVITIES HON ORS MANPOWER INDEX ,ii 1, f i' P 45 1 1 ,,,,.. dminiotrataon School Board o Educatlon ' Efvvcli 1 t mu 1 ' C bs Y X x . or L 1 -1' . ff - I-1 ' - svmzs- Y-' sz-A fx.-:W ,th rr. PARKER Superintendent of Schools SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jack F, Parker and his assistants have more than just a goal to reach with their daily tasks that are set in front of them day by day. It is more than just an idea to head all of the city schools, plus various departments alone here at Central. With the widespread of school drop- outs and other serious and minor weekly problems, Dr. Parker and his right-arm assistants 'can take pride in feeling that they help make the best better. No doubt the jobs of these officals are so frequently takenmfor granted. So in the cause of futhering educationl at Central High alone the students would like to thank our superintendent of schools and his worthy assistants. MR. ALEX HIGDON MR. M. This board, which is made up of men and women, work long tedious hours to maintain and regulate a school program that will best benefit the Students. A With the job of balancing the budget, wwcetling with the necessity of securing :hfvv equipment for our schools, the board also has to alleviate the problem of over- crowded rooms, securing new teachers, plan new buildings and expansion programs, as well as to add new members from year to year. Realizing that their decisions direct the course of our school, this group holds many lengthy meetings in an effort to give the people an educational program they will approve of. Administration PRINCIPAL Now finishing his fourth year as OHS principal is Mr. Joe Lawter, 53 f01'ff1e1' Len' tral graduate. Mr. Lawter obtained his Bache- lor of Arts Degree from Central State College, He then went on and acquired his .Masters Degree from Oklahoma State University. Since then he has added fifty hours to his graduate work. , This year Mr. Lawter was faced with more and bigger problems. Not only was he principal of the regular school classes but was also head of the Manpower Pro- gram, project classes, and Adult Day c1aSSeS. He has indeed been a very busy and important man at Central. To Mr. Lawter, the faculty and students say thanks, for the long, hard hours you've spent benefiting Our OHS. MR. JOE LAWTER MR. AL MARSHALL VICE-PRINCIPAL This year Central has a new face in the office of Vice-Principal, Mr. Al Marshall, but not new at Central. He takes good care of the disciplinary problems, watching the statistical reports, and supervising the teachers record keep- ing. He has made many friends as Vice- Principal. Although his schedule at Central requires a great amount of time he still finds hours to help out anywhere and anyone whenever he can. MR. WESLEY DRIGGS ADULT COORDINATOR In past years Mr. Driggs has worked' as assistant principal here at Central High School. But this year he had a greater and bigger task. Being the principal of the Manpower' students presents problems as well as rewards. Mr. Driggs feels that every student is entitled toa better education, he feels that by helping others he is helping himself. He says it is more than a reward when you help people help 'themselves ' Counselors - fice Staff CHARLES SANDMAN 5el1i0T High Counselor LADELL PETERSON Senior High Counselor JEWEL REEVES BILL SALWAECHTER 'Junior High Counselor Student Advisor OFFICE STAFF Some of the busiest people at Central will be found in the front office. These women handle everything from records to fee money. Some of their responsibilities are run- ning the switchboard, teaching the office aides and showing them the various jobs important in office work. Here will be found a general information bureau on all students such as grade averages, all classes and teachers, also the records of previous graduates attending Central. Each of the women, Mrs. Shirley Cook, Mrs, Eloise Keffer, Mrs. Lahoma Schiel and Mrs. Kathleen Vinson, of the office staff do the work that makes the wheels ofCentral run smoothly and constantly. Keeping attendances of all students, printing and issuing daily bulletins, checking students in and out of school, keeping the school up to date of the financial position as well as keeping books on fees and issuing ttereipts are just part of a day's work for ulif-sw four women. So hats off to these hard Wfirls ing ladies, COUNSELORS Counseling is a hard job and is not to be taken lightly. This year we have a great staff of counselors. In their daily routine they help students with their problems avr home, at school, as well as financial ones. One can get a good idea why these counse- lors are sometimes called parents away from home. qMr.'Charles Sandmann has been a Senior High counselor for two years, after teaching math for nine years. QCounseling, at Central for the first year is Mrs. Ladell Peterson, Last year she taught Co-op English, math, and homemaking. Mrs. Jewell Reeves has been counseling 'Junior High students at Central for nine years . She came to Central when it was first made a Junior-Senior school in 1954. Assistant to Mr. Marshall in the area, of attendance and discipline at junior high level, is the new title given Mr. Bill Sal- waechter. This is his first year as a Junior High counselor. Previously he taught science here at Central. Before coming to Oklahoma he was a geologist in Lansing, Michigan. But as we look back upon the years, we cherish those golden memories of assemblies, parties, dances, club meetings, games, attending- and not attending classes, rep- resenting our school at various other functions, racing down the stairs to the cafeteria, madly hunting parking places, and trying to get off the D. Although We haven't com- pleted our duty in Senior. High, we are getting a good start, especially with the hard-working officers that were elected. The President of this class is Connie Lape. Assisting her and filling in when she is absent is Vice-president Marie Deal and the roll and minutes are taken care of by Phyllis Colvin. The money keeper or as they say I'm Confused says Fran Morgan the treasurer is Nancy Ebersole. Last but not least, is the representative, Ber- nadette Martinez. We know that these people will do their best in trying to make Central a better school in the future. They are Central's leaders in the future. We hope they will pick up where the Centralites from the year ,before have left off and continue on. FOOTBALL Victory didn't seem to be the battle cry of the Central Cardinals Football team losing many valuable members due to grad- uation and transfers, Central had a head start on bad luck. Also, playing many of the state's best teams, such as John Marshall, class A Champs , Southeast, Harding and Woodward, didn't help show the Cards at their best. There were many outstanding members of the team and among the notables, were Leonard Mayes, fullbackg Don Steele, quar- terbackg Billy I-lankins, halfbackg Harold Steele, quarterback, and Luther Ford, line- man. Coach Jess Ladd and the Cardinal Staff would like to wish the graduating seniors the best of luck in their future. These boys did their best at all times, and as any great athlete will tell you, it's hard to keep trying when your team is losing, and to maintain a level head at all times. They have the stamina to play on any team in the country. Their seniors take the hopes and best wishes of Central High School with them now and forever after. You will never get this ball, says Don Simmons. ,ig I F . , f A I I P Q f l I i 1 1 i A :V iw EH F41 if I, ,f Qi, 'r 3.2: ,,, if, Rudy Renterla Sen1or Godfrey Bass Sen1or Maur1ce Alexander J un1or Centra1-- 57 Central--45 Central--65 Central--70 Central--64 Central--44 Central--45 Central--53 Central--52 Central--40 WF? ! It is an experimental program, and is the first of its kind. The program is staffed with four academic teachers and nine skill teachers, besides the office personnel. The boys are offered a skill in welding, sheetmetal, machine work, or auto mechanics, while the girls may choose stenographic training or cosmetology. Manpower has had several programs, including a Christmas assembly which was for the entire high school student body. One of the projects of the Manpower group is an attempt to inform the potential drop-out of the realities which lie hidden out beyond the green looking pastures of no more school. This has been approached in the form of a panel which has traveled to other schools and discussed the problems with these students. .4lt We Have i 1 L.. I'd like to tell you how much I enjoyed working on this book for you There are so many people that need to be thanked for understanding when we had problems, the teachers who excused the staff members so many times, the student body, who had faith ginning of the year, and The Rembrant Studios who made such wonderful pictures. But most of all the peoplel worked closest with, our sponsor Mrs. Retta Taylor, for Without her this book would not have been possible, and to the best friend an editor ever had, Shirley Arthur. To my layout editors Robert Hale and Shirley Rameriz, and to Carolyn Young who did a fine job with the index. To Donna Hopkins and Rocky Jones, for keeping the records straight and to the best Junior editor I've ever seen Linda Buntin.. I only hope that Linda has a staff nearly as good as mine next year. Miss Conger this book is ded icated to you because of the love for Central that you have and for the regards the staff members and I have for you ...............
