We found with inexpressible delight A welcome that has ne'er been known to die. We lived with you, in learning and in fun, And made each day a higher step in dreams. And maybe boast of all the things we've done To make our school what everyone esteems. We soon shall leave our school with cherished hopes, That when we close the doors behind us fast Her spirit still will help us up life's slopes, Until we know no more of what is past. -Betty Cernosek. 1 X X - tr X! As the last semester of High School for the Class of '46 draws to a close, we all begin to recall our wonderful experiences at Central. When we leave we will no doubt go on read- ing about our classmates the rest of our lives. One day we will possibly read about Dolores.Evans, the QQLwLAw On the Sports Page we will find that Frank Boydston has made All-American. Of course Bob Entzminger, John Haney, and Vernon Forshee have made themselves famous in Basket- ball. Then both our Student Council Presidents, Jack Vaughn and Bob Ross, with their speak- ing ability, have become lawyers. Not least on our list is Ruth Jane Campbell, Ruth Jane has always won titles, and now she is Miss America. ln connection with Ruth Jane we remember the Junior Play, You Can't Take It With You, which starred Clema Benson and Lyndell Buck. In the passing parade we see some organizations at work. The leaders in the organizations were leaders of our Pep Clubs at Central. Tommie Lou Waddell, Jack Bell, Sue Swartwood and Bill Hughes, Barbara Circle, Bill Marshall, and Jimmie Whitney. ,We notice that the Editor of the paper we are reading is Betty Murray, our l946.Yearbook Editor. The illustrations for the paper are drawn by Elaine Fields. And last but not least, on the theatrical page we find Tfone Wehba lYou will remember him from the Red Shirt Minstrelsl has revived a Vaude- vi e act. We all dislike leaving Central but we know that there are bigger things in the future for us. Sponsors: Mr. A. H. And we're plenty proud of ourselves, too. We've worked hard tor this position of importance. lt was not so very long ago that we were the very greenest of sophomores--doing everything wrong, but learning by experience under the leadership of Jack White, our Sophomore president, we gradually became exalted upperclassmen-genuine Juniors, and we elected Jack White and Pat Kimberlin as our presidents. We have given our own contribution to our dear old Alma Mater by giving such players as Charlie Miskovsky, Stanley Tilley, Ed Gibson, Harvey Roper, Kenneth Shaver, T. R. Lewis, Kenneth Ingeroham and Dick Welker, all of whom lettered in football. ln the field of dramatics, Tommy Crane and Charlene Ladd shone in The Poor Nut, the Junior play presented to a full house and were ably assisted by Joyce Womack, Gene Williams and a host of other members of our Junior Class. When it came to Basketball we held our own with Paul Hanson and Bill Calahan and we're very proud of the first Junior to be Basketball Queen, Imogene McCurdy. The Wrestling team had more than half of its members as Juniors with Rose Marie Steele as the first Wrestling Queen. Leonard Kaiser, Earl Worsham, Jack Roberts, Kenny Shaver, Danny Vaughn and Roger Daniels, all lettered in that sport, And then as the crowning event of our career as Juniors, we gave the Seniors a royal farewell with the Junior-Senior Prom-the big social shindig of the season, Now, we're all looking forward to next year when we can give even more of our talents and ourselves to Central as Seniors. 79' 'Officers Georgianna Sweet, Charles Keegene, Alice Steedman, Earl Worsham, Pat Haney, Hervey Roper, Jack Roberts. Please take notice. Maybe our young classmates had a tendency to look bewildered in the fall of l945, but by the time we have traveled through our Alma Mater's halls, for the usual length of time, we, too, will have attained that look of wisdom and confidence that comes only through semesters of effort and achievement. We have a spectacular quartet whose harmonizing voices belong to Jerry Hopper, Miles Seaborn, Alvin Alsup and Paul Caskey. Their fame and popularity is growing with every performance. Jo Bob O'Neal and Walter Evans have shown their opponents some stiff competition by lettering in wrestling and Robert Finley lettered in football. , Sponsors: Mrs. L u c i I Ie Q l Whitman, Miss Eva Lee, Mr. R. Nevertheless, Coach Williams must ac- cept our attempt. Since 1935 the Coach has constantly kept our Alma Mater at the top of the first rate teams in the state. His undying efforts have reward- ed him, as he doubtlessly is greatly re- spected by the students as well as the members of the team. WARREN RECTOR KCute Boy! Warren was a threat to the opposi- tion all season with his speed and block- ing. He was also a fine defensive man and mode many outstanding plays dur- ing the season. JOHN HANEY iLong John! Playing his first year of football was John Haney. He proved that he is out- standing in football as well as basket- ball. Our only regret is that he will not be back next year. lMaybe.D CHARLEY MISKOVSKY CMiskolvichi Central's tough little center was per- haps the best tackler on the team. He brought down the opposition with many a hard-rocking tackle. Charley is only o junior and this makes his second year to earn a Central letter. We give fair warning to the opposition to be on the lookout for this guy next year. ln the Enid game, Charley intercepted a pass and ran 45 yards for a touchdown. He made Second team All-City. FRANK BOYDSTUN KB-o-i-n-gl Frank played his first year of foot- ball and made All-City, Mid-State, and All-State. Not only does he shine on the football field but also in the class- room. Frank played superbly for the Cardinals this year and his long passes will be remembered by all who saw him play. GERALD NIKKEL lNickJ Gerald played a better than average game of football. He was very well liked by his team mates and he will be missed next year. DON WELKER tHairi Don was one of our best players. His speed was a great asset to the team. This is his second year of football. Don will be missed next year but we expect his brother to carry on. Don made sec- ond team All-City. BOB ENTZMINGER fintzyj Bob played a great many games this year and proved his ability as a fine end. Bob is also one af our star basketball players. Bob has the honor of being Keeper of the Queen. BILL RYDER Kked Ryderj Bill played his second year af foot- ball this year. He was an outstanding fullback on the team all year. He was also one of the best all-around defensive men. ED GARRETT ffatboyi Ed, a three-year letterman, has shown his ability as a football player since he was a sophomore. Captain of the 1945 Cardinals, Ed will be greatly missed next year. He made All-State in the Tulsa World. v DON FELTS tLittle Brotherj Don, a senior, played his first year of football. He has made a fine show- ing for himself ond his speed was quite an asset to the team. Don and Kenny lngraham did more running during the games than any af the other players. MONTEE HOKE lMonkeyJ The fastest mon on the squad, Montee's speed and head-up ball play- ing made up for his disadvantage in weight. He is a two-year letterman. He was always there when a play came through the middle. His teamwork and sportsmanship will be sorely missed next year. in HOKE E FELTS WELKER ENTZMINGER RYDER GARRETT adm 7' 1 if ' -A 3 J DUPREE 5, . PALLAN 23 'cr' LEWIS IQLL6 CARDS COACH GORDON DuPREE Not only has Coach DuPree been an excellent wrestling coach but he has also been an excellent assistant foot- ball coach. The boys all think Coach is tops. He works hard with Coach Wil- liams to turn out the wonderful football teams we have. His tireless efforts are greatly appreciated by all of us. FRANK PALLAN lFrankieI Frank, a senior, was a very depend- able ball player. He proved this at the last of the season by playing very bril- liant football. T. R. LEWIS Lewis returns next year and will probably bring a great deal of trouble to the opposition. This tall blond junior is a tackle and much is expected from him next year. HARVEY ROPER KCasanovaJ Harvey, a junior, is playing his sec- ond year of football. He has one touch- down to his credit and the Alma Mater expects lots from him next year. STANLEY TILLEY IBashful?j Tilley, a junior, was o fine aggres- sive player. He got quite a number of hard knocks this year. He brake his leg in the Capitol Hill game and wasn't able to play for the rest of the season. We are expecting Tilley to rise and shine next year. LYNDELL BUCK lBuckoI Lyndell, e senior, played his first year of football. He is proof enough that dynamite comes in small pack- ages. lt is a rumor around the Central Halls that Lyndell sleeps with his letter jacket on. ED GIBSON IHootI Ed, a junior, has showed great possi- bilities. He was kickoff man for the Cardinals and he did an excellent job. We will be hearing great things from him next year. ROBERT FINLEY lLaffyl Laffy was the only sophomore to letter. He shows great promise and will probably bring many honors to Central in the next two years. VETERANS ADMINISTRATION In the fall of l945 Central witnessed what was to be the greatest movement in its hisotry: the educational program for returned servicemen. During that first semester some forty veterans began classes. Immediately, these ambitious men detected a flaw in this system. They realized that they were too much on edge, too tense, to attempt classes with younger students. To remedy this deflection the whole of the group, under the guidance of Mr, F. R. Born, principal, R. V. Miller, boys' counselor, and several other faculty members, surveyed the situation and with ultimate decision, corlstructedrgiraccelerated..QIQgIQm for these men who came back from the Army, Navy, Marine, Coast Guard and every other branch of service, to complete their education. The principle of this program, lies in the fact that each individual may complete the acquisition of credits in the time he wishes. The veterans attend classes of mathematics, history, and English daily, each class being two hours in length. This program is being taught by such capable instructors as Mrs. Josephine Le Bron, Miss Hallie Elder, Miss Mabel Stewart, Miss Rae Miller, Mrs. Jessie Royer and Mr. Jess Farris. At present, some l5O veterans are shouting appreciation for this opportunity to complete high school in a short time. A veterans' organization has been approved and is led by,Jay Harry Moody, an ex-Marine, Donald Wood, secretary, Dennis Bales and Charles Brounough, as Student Council representatives. ln due time the organization wishes to become recognized as a moti- vating factor in aiding every veteran who wishes to accept the ever-extending hand of encour- agement and opportunity. Gee, we had fun going to the Christmas and Spring formals! And remember the moring we came to school at 7:l5 to practice for our Third Annual Minstrel? How can we forget the grand shows we ushered for at the Shrine, and how our vice-presidents, Arlene and Gloria, always made us wear red hair-ribbons there, or pinning roses on the foreign officials when we were guides at the National Air Clinic? Bet we had the best showcases ever, thanks to Billie Jean. Were we behind our teams? How we cheered at those wonderful football and basketball games and wrestling matches! Besides that, we gave the boys a Football Ban- quet this fall and did the some for the basketball and wrestling teams in the spring. Talk about royalty! Ruth Jane was Football Queen and the basketball boys chose Imogene. Betty Thompson ruled the band and Rosie Steele was the first Wrestling Queen Central ever had. Annual Queen? Betty Murray! We had our first Formal Installation of Officers when Sue presented the gavel to Dolores. Don't forget our Yell Leaders, Ruth' Jane, Pat, and Suef They were super!
