Whether the strains of Davenport High School’s loyalty song are heard echoing throughout Brady Street Stadium or George Marshall Gymnasium, reverberating off the cafeteria walls during Friday noon hours, or resounding through the rafters at the conclusion of a pep aud; its words and melody reflect the honor and pride felt by each student and faculty member in being a part of the spirit of DHS. Each word, each phrase holds an individual significance, for each represents the facets that mean Davenport High School — the education we received through the wisdom and guidance of superior instructors, the enjoyment gained through the color of co-curricular activities, the honors attained through the merits of academic and social organizations, and the sportsmanship and spirit induced by athletic competition.

The 1960 Blackhawk . . . to all the students who have passed through the doors of Davenport High School; who, upon enter- ing, found in its halls and classrooms the patterns for greater and higher educational values. Over the past 96 years 21,797 graduates have found within Davenport High School opportunities for friendships, and guidance in planning for their futures. To its graduates DHS has meant many things. It has meant buildings — old, but strong in their foundations. It has meant activities — academic, social, and athletic. Most of all it has meant people — the administration, the faculty, the students — who have brought the distinctions, honors, and awards that have made Davenport High School the “School of Champions.” Although this year will end the era of Daven- port High School, its traditions will continue as a foundation for Central High School and West High School.
