After the exercrses the students separate and use the electrrc runways whrch carry them to the room where therr frrst perrod classes are held Some go to the astro scrence department where celestral navrgatron rs the favorrte subrect of many boys takrng courses rn commercral space travel Others go to the north end of the burldrng where practrcal courses rn jet and rocket engrne desrgn are taught and practrced Many grrls are also seen rn thrs end of the burldrng learnrng to become jet arrlrne stewardesses and office workers In the socral scrence classes students are watchrng the Unrted Natrons and the Planetary Government at work on the large televrsron screen whrch occupres the whole front wall of the classroom The translucent wrndows produce a soft glow rn the room whrch sharply defrnes every rmage whrch appears on the screen The freshmen rn the math department are busy wrth therr advanced geometry whrle the sophomore class studyrng wrth elementary calculus Because of the raprd advancement rn teachrng students usually finrsh calculus by the first half of therr sophomore year After therr trarnrng rn math rs through they go on to specralrze rn the courses rn whrch they frnd they do therr best work The Brology students wrll have a lecture by a natrve of Mars who wrll tell them of the advanced plant lrfe to be found on hrs natrve planet In mrnrature greenhouses he has several specrmens rn whrch he thrnks the students wrll be rnterested Many students who have free perrods are relaxrng rn one of the several large swrmmrng pools rn the spacrous gardens wrthrn the campus grounds The pools are open all the year round because of the radrant heatrng systems that are rnstalled rn all parts of the campus Senror students rn Crvrl Engrneerrng are workmg on plans for large free ways and crty recreatron centres The less advanced students are occupred wrth the fundamentals of brrdge tunnel and burldrng constructron Homework rs done by means of tape recordrngs whrch are handed to the students at the end of each class The student puts the tape on a recordrng machme and allows the machme to record hrs answers to the teacher s questrons The only resemblance to the Central of 1953 rs the sports program Students are strll playrng rn the same way except that new safety devrces have been desrgned to protect the players There are strll the football rallres the vrctory dances rn the large ballroom on the campus and the frrendly rrvalrres between Central and opposrng schools all over the State Although the students are more advanced rn these schools of the future and specralrze more setrously rn therr subjects they strll have not forgotten how to have fun There are many types of recreatron rncludrng week end trrps to drstant planets whrch are arranged by school ofhcrals The students leave drrectly after school on Frrday and go to the State spaceport where there rs an arrlrner wartrng to take off for the planet of therr chorce On the planet the students are shown the hrstorrcal spots the recreatron centres and the sports of whrch the people of the planet are especrally proud Other students enyoy gomg to some remote spot on earth where they enyoy jet races rn therr souped up planes lust as therr fathers had competed rn dray races some frfteen or twenty years before The world has become more advanced and rts chrldren have come to realrze the heavy burden whrch some day they wrll have to shoulder Therefore they are learmng early the necessrty of a good educatron and are specralrzrng rn many driierent fields before they even frnrsh Hrgh exercrse thrs great prrvrlege Our percentage rs lower than that of other countrres that have the ballot box Probably many of us take thrs prrceless prrvrlege for granted lf we would only stop and thrnk a whrle at electron trme we would realrze the prrce our country has had to pay so that we may vote Srnce our country was born we have taken part rn seven wars Even though a few of these have been on a small scale human lrves have been sacrrflced rn order that we mrght lrve freely and run our own Government In our first conflrct we defeated the Trrpolr Prrates who had at tacked our merchant shrps Even though we drd not have a navy we defeated them and marntarned the freedom of the seas Then we fought the Revolutronary War so that we could run our Government the way we wanted to In 1812 agarn our freedom of the seas was rnterfered wrth by England No one expected a young Natron lrke us to challenge the sea power of England but we were deter mrned to have complete freedom We defeated England for the second trme We showed the rest of the world that we were wrllrng to light so that we mrght be free Thrs country was drawn rnto the Frrst World War when a German submarrne sank a Brrtrsh merchant shrp Many Amerrcans who were aboard the shrp were lost Germany who was conquerrng Europe had become a threat to our peace at home Agarn we fought and were vrctorrous but a large prrce was pard Not too much later the Axrs forces were overrunnrng Europe and Japans sneak attack on Pearl Harbor drew us rnto a second World War Thrs trme a much greater prrce was pard Mrllrons of dollars were spent and thousands of our people lost therr lrves so that we mrght be free to lrve rn a country rn whrch we could have the rrght to vote to speak freely and to be governed democratrcally Srnce the second World War we have formed the Unrted Natrons an organrzatron of world powers Its purpose rs to marntarn the peace of the world VOTING Not a reward but a serrous duty and prrceless A few years ago when the Communrsts entered Korea the Unrted Natrons went to the ard of South Korea We were the hrst natron to send help to Korea Agarn many of our soldrers lost therr lrves so that freedom mrght be preserved Today rn the Iron Curtarn countrres the people have to follow the rules of therr Drctator and do not have the prrvrlege of votrng freely If only more people would thrnk of
