WHAT MAKES A GOOD LIFE By NORMA MOREID Awarded Grrls Prrze rn Anthony Medal Essay Contest for the Class of January 1954 If we should ask someone what hrs rdea of a good lrfe rs I thrnk that we would frnd that hrs rdea would fol low along the lmes of hrs character Perhaps there are hundreds of rdeas on thrs subject each havrng one small detarl that rs drfferent I shall try to grve you my rnterpre tatron of What Makes A Good Lrfe Frrst of all I belreve that relrgron has the utmost rmportance rn developrng a good lrfe Each and every one of us shall be farthful to hrs relrgrous belrefs by attendrng a place of worshrp regularly There are many drffetent relrgrons berng practrced however rt does not matter whrch relrgron we practrce as long as we abrde by rt Our every day words and actrons should be gurded by the laws of our relrgron Another good precept rn relrgron rs to have farth rn prayer We must never revolt agarnst the Lord because somethmg deptessrng has happened to us Instead we must always realrze that the Lord rs lust and that he has a reason for everythmg he does It rs evrdent that rf we are all consrsterrtly relrgrous people our lrves wrll be good Another mayor factor rn good lrvrng rs practrcrng good crtrzenshrp We Amerrcans are not fully aware of the extent of our freedom We have a somewhat vague rdea as to what our freedom means However as trme marches on and we learn more about other countrres we are begrnnrng to realrze the value of lrberty Earlrer I spoke of relrgron there alone we have unmeasured prrvrleges Then we recall some other rrghts we have such as freedom of speech of the press of educatron of a just trral and of the ballot box For these we should be thankful The best way rn whrch to express our gratrtude rs to be a good crtrzerr Thrs rs not a hrghly drfficult task One of the chref ways to demonstrate good crtrzenshrp rs to obey the law Thrs means not only federal laws but also state and crty laws rncludrng laws made by Labor Unrons to whrch we be ong traffrc laws laws governrng trade and the rrghts of prrvate property and many others A good crtrzen wrll also strrve for the good of the communrty rn whrch he or she lrves There are many ways to do thrs of whrch we are all famrlrar Lrvrng as a good crtrzen rs lrvmg a good lrfe In the last analysrs regular practrce of our relrgrous farth good crtrzenshrp and other lrttle qualrtres of good character such as honesty and consrderatrorr of others make up a good lrfe MY FUTURE By MARIE IOZZI Awarded Honorable Mentron rn Grrls Anthony Medal Essay Contest for the Class of january, 1954 There rs only one person who can predrct and who knows what the future wrll brrng and He rs God How desrres could come true I for one am rn that bracket Very soon I wrll have graduated from hrgh school whrch at the present wrll be the most rmportant goal I have achreved What hes rn the future for me I do not know but I hope and pray rt rs a good future I know educatron wrll play a brg part rn my future but srnce I am not gorng on further wrth my schoolrng I am satrsfred wrth my Hrgh School drploma After graduatron I hope to secure a good rob My rnten trons are to work for a prosperous lawyer rn a clean and comfortable office and to serve hrm to the utmost of my abrlrty Berng hrs secretary I know I wrll have many re sponsrbrlrtres and oblrgatrons whrch I wrll have to fulfill These of course I wrll enjoy dorng because I am very eager to get started Well enough for my job whrch I hope to have for a long trme to come and a look rnto the rest of my future After five or srx years of workrng and enroyrng lrfe I hope to meet someone specral and to get marrred Of course there wrll be the great excrtement of buymg a weddrng gown sendmg out weddrng rnvrtatrons havrng a shower buymg furnrture lookrng for an apartment and finally the brg day About a year or two later I would lrke to be famrly Four chrldren are my rdea of a nrce famrly Meanwhrle I am gettrng older and my chrldren are gettrng brgger All thrs trme I hope I have been a good mother to my chrldren and a good wrfe to my husband Frnally rt rs trme for the chrldren to start gorng to school Oh the first day they are thrrlled and cant wart for the nrght to go by for the next day After the first week of school rt seems that Ann doesn t lrke rt too well but Stephen rs enyoyrng hrmself and rs very contented Well that rs the way rt goes Now the chrldren are already rn hrgh school Doesn t the trme go fast?
